I know that this is not "really" in the right place but I wanted to ask here anyway. For those of you who "sponsor" teams by supporting the booster club etc, or those of you who purchase ad space in the teams programs, what do you do as far as ads go?

Simple Logo, contact info, and a supporting statement?

The reason I ask is because the team that I supported last year wants to throw an ad in the program this year, in order to gain more support and notice to the booster club program that I run. since I have never run an ad like this, I wanted to see what others have done..

Thanks all.

I don't quite understand what you are asking... and ad for who? For a team? For a booster club? For your photography business? I could not make sense of what you were asking.

I've put ads in the printed football programs a few times. I include my company name, my web site address, my email and my phone number. I also indicate the types of photography I do (wedding, sports, theater, senior portraits) and include an 'eye-grabbing' image that is usually a football player portrait wearing their team jersey.

That is what I am asking, you understood correctly. Thanks for the response.

I pretty much do the same thing. I was given a full page ad in exchange for some action shots for the program. I actually designed a full page and sent it over to them. It had contact information and a few pictures. To date, it has not generated any revenue, but that was only about a month ago.

While I am always looking for more revenue, this is not costing me anything. Since this team is apart of my booster club program, they are doing it for free because the more I make, the more they get back in the end.

I've been thinking of doing some sort of booster club program for my school(s) as well. Can you give some details of what your program is?

As far as an ad, I've always been taught if you are going to advertise, advertise something. That means more then just a name, number, what you do and so on. So if it's for a program, I'll make a coupon with a % off of all internet sales in that particular sport. Also I have just put in a rally towel add, and it will give a % off for one week. Works well for me.

Dave,
I wouldn't get too elaborate. They simply need to know how to view your photos/ get to your website.

My question is the legality of using a photo including an athlete/person in an advertisement. Can you put a picture of someone in a program ad that has not signed a model release? I know I have been hesitant to place someone in a program ad without a release (I used to do it and have thought about possible issues it could cause). This question goes for business cards too.

You use the image of a person to promote your business, or for any other commercial use and you need a release.

I used the info that's on my business card and added a football with flames coming off the rear and the phrase " Go win another ring"

They won the state championship the prior year.

With some youth sports clubs, there is a built-in model release in the application that says images can be used for promotional purposes. I'm not too sure how the upper age sports do it.
