What lens would you get to replace the Canon EF-S 18-55mm?

Just wanted some open opinion on replacing this lens; I know everyone gets the 18-55mm lens if you buy the kit and I feel like it doesn't do much for me and it just feels so cheap because it's all plastic ish..any ideas on what I should get to replace this one lens? Sorry for the bad grammatical errors going on; even I'm having a hard time understanding what I just typed. *brain fart*

EDIT: I want it for a crop body because I don't plan to upgrade the body anytime soon and I can't afford L lenses so something reasonable in pricing please. lol :)

It really depends on what you want...

Personally, the 15-85 is my go-to on a crop camera, More range on both ends, excellent optics, fast/silent AF and better build quality (Though its not an L)

The 24-105 is ok, but its a poor range on a cropper

I would love an L lens but I think FF takes advantage of these lenses more than a crop body would.

you are a SMART man and will be rewarded appropriately. don't waste time with 24-xx lenses on crop bodies.

I'd keep the 18-55 and get an ultrawide, a tele, and a midrange prime (35 or 50 something) and you'll be set for most needs. Now I'd say get a tele or ultradewide, 70-200/f4 or sigma 10-20 or canon 10-22 or something.

Get a different focal length and keep the 18-55. It's a great lens for what it is, but it's boring, just like every zoom in that range.

I use the 24-105 on my T1i also, i love it. It doesnt happen often where i wish i was wider, but it has happened.

"something reasonable" means different things to different folks...hard numbers help more

aside from being plastic how is the 18-55mm limiting you?

Yes, exactly. These 2 would be my recommendations as well.

Maybe it's user error on my end but to me it's not as sharp and out of ..maybe 200 photos I find a few I actually like. I mean I always bring it with me and use it for some shoots but I guess it's not what I am looking for. Wish I knew all the terminology to explain to you what I meant. :(

you could post a couple of shots you're not happy with...sometimes just the settings need a little tweaking...but if you're trying to get the same sharpness that you're getting out of your primes you might have a tough time finding a lens for that with a smaller budget
