The only thing you can adjust on the screen is it's brightness.

While it does sound like your particular camera is not right, it's still important to remember that the screen on the back of any DSLR is going to be of poor quality.

Also remember that while most DSLR's can now shoot video, it is not their primary purpose and they are heavily compromised in their ability to do so by their need to be still cameras first.

While I think we can understand your frustration with the differences, if screen accuracy is really important (and it sounds like it is) then investing in a proper monitor could be worth it.

A magenta cast - or any form of colour cast is not normal.

But still: As people have said before - the screen is NOT accurate.
The 7D's screen may seem accurate - but you can't expect the results on it to match with printing or a calibrated monitor - they might be closer than some older cameras - but you cannot rely on it.

Have you compared it to another 5d2? Maybe your's is off and you need a replacement, or maybe they're all like that and there will be nothing much you can do.

Any follow up on a solution? I have a similar issue, but with two Canon 5D Mark IIs. The white balance on the LCD screen is quite different for each. No problem with the actual image from the camera but, like the poster, I am shooting wedding movies and we need to make accurate white balance settings from the LCD screen. Particularly difficult if they both look different on the LCD screen of each

This is why video camera viewfinders should all be black & white...

The coating on the 5D screen giving the colour cast?

Wow, what sound rational advice.
Very good advice too, I wonder if anyone will listen to it?

I would suggest a WB Lens filter.

Expodisc is the one that comes to mind, this would give easier WB on the fly, there are certainly cheaper options out there though.

I don't do video but my LCD screens have different color biases...and they're the same make/model camera. One is pretty much correct while the other is has a green hue.

Maybe a dumb question, but have you tried dialing back the brightness a click or two?

I´m not exactly following some (most...) of the responses here, but your question seems perfectly reasonable.

It´s not normal to have that colour cast on the screen, even though its not 100% reliable, it should and normally does a much better image of what is "happening" then that. I´m assuming this issue occurs with every WB setting, not just the 5200K you mentioned for the test.

I do have a question. Did you just buy the 5d MKII and notice this or did it happen all of the sudden? Is it new? I´m assuming that since you are wondering if this is normal, you just got the gear.

Anyway, even though the screen could be worse, less precise then the one on the 7d, it should be much better then that, no doubt, and you should take it to Canon. I´m almost sure that´s a new screen on the way, since that one seems to be misreproducing colours.
