So my new computer supports USB 3.0. Even have a new USB 3.0 hub ready to go...and a CF card capable of 90Mb/sec speeds...but the missing link is the USB 3.0 card reader. Pretec was the first to "announce" a USB 3.0 card reader (the p240) back in June, slated for mass production in August. Well, apparently they ran into a few snags along the way. I'd buy a Sandisk one in a heartbeat, if it was available. I'm just wondering if I've missed something. I do online searches every so often, looking for updates, but I still haven't seen one of these.

I believe Intel isn't supporting USB3.0 in their chipsets until early next year. I wouldn't expect many devices before that.

I'm not sure that it depends on Intel supporting it. The major motherboard manufacturers are supporting it now. So it depends on when the big name PC manufacturers plan to support it and when Windows will natively support it, I suppose. However, there's a small market out there now that will continue to grow. So I'm surprised we haven't seen CF readers show up yet.

Digisol is suppose to have one coming as well, but they haven't released it yet.
And, I'm sure others will follow as well.

Readers and thumb drives are two things I've been waiting for to come readily available for USB 3.
The Intel support may have a bigger impact than you think on how the companies are approaching their release schedule. Not so much that they are waiting for Intel to release, but that Intel had a date set for their chipset release that included USB 3.0 support.
As company developing a reader is going to need a target date for release during the R&D phase, and when you have the company designing the spec for it tell you it will be Q1 2011 that they will release support in their chipset, the reader company probably doesn't see much worth in pushing out a product before that time.
Other companies would have a smaller impact unless they were involved in the ratification of the USB 3.0 like Intel has been.

I expect native Windows support will be a patch or OS update before a new OS release with native 3.0 support. I'd expect Linux distros to include native support as soon as coding is finalized, but M$ will go through some buggy and unreliable trials before something solid happens from their end.

ImRaptor brings up some valid points, but in regard to your comments, it will be dependent on the chipset manufacturers making their products available to motherboard manufacturers. It's the Northbridge, Southbridge and other non-CPU support chips which are the peripheral support. If Intel hasn't any plans on making their 3.0-compliant chipsets available until a certain time, it makes perfect sense that third-party makers of peripherals won't be rushing their wares to market until motherboard and OEM system makers will be able to use those peripherals. And since Intel is still the big kid on the block, there's no reason for the third parties to jump the gun.
