Actually the TT1 is quite a bit smaller.

That's what I did. Although the MiniTT1 is smaller than the FlexTT5, I like the fact that the FlexTT5 can be used as a receiver, a transmitter or both. And has an external antenna. Although the specs say that the range of both are the same, I sometimes wonder if they really are.

I looked at that as well, and the reason I went all TT5 was just easier to manage the batteries

For me the small size of the MiniTT1 is really convenient on-camera, so I don't mind it being a dedicated transmitter only. And it's way nicer than the old Plus II "towers" for sure!

The Mini is MUCH less obtrusive on the top mount of a camera body. And since I usually never mount a flash ON my camera (I use flash off-camera angles), I prefer the smaller profile. I only need the transmit feature ON the camera body. I use the Flex units on mic stands with 580's, so the bigger size is not an issue.

I wish they would make the Flex unit to "receive" only, and lower the price. You only need one Mini, and numerous Flex.

But as noted above, the battery issue on the Mini is a difference, but to make the profile small, they had to go with the smaller more expensive batteries in the Mini. With all the expense of photo gear these days, batteries are the least cost I worry about.

It's noticeably smaller and you always need one transmitter.

I got one mini and two flex. I think I need to sell the mini and get another flex.

+2 for a RX only.

I picked up the mini because I liked the smaller size. Plus when/if I need to remotely trigger a camera, I'll need a transmitter.
