Its a service we provide here. I like to think there is enough info here from the lot of us that will make or break this lens for most people.

What sort of creature is that?

That 'creature' is Louis, my rescue Chinese Crested (external link) dog ;)

Tried my first attempt at 'sports' photography yesterday, as the tail end of a cyclone hit us bringing some good swell :) The lens performed well, AF nice and quick :D

After more testing I've concluded that the sharpness on my copy is fine. It still over exposes by 2/3rd to 0.75 ev but this is easily corrected in camera or in software.

Great to know, I feel happy when I know people like or want to buy this lens, maybe I should work for Tamron or something.

@Tamron if your reading....more like this please!I like the smooth lines compared to ANY of your other models, I love the full time manual AF and the silky smooth focus ring, I like the metal back plate and the strong well build feel, and I LOVE the IQ this thing churns out.

If Tamron put this much effort into say a new 28-75 F2.8 I think it would out sell Canon easily!

For the price, this is a great lens.

I would call this a "casual walkabout zoom lens".

One for someone who wants a decent zoom to go out occassionally and take pictures of wildlife etc, without breaking the bank to do so.

For that purpose, this fits perfectly.

So if someone wanted a lens for the occasional wildlife, or did not get on with the 100-400l (like me), this is perfect.

Mark :-)

I always felt like I had a "telescope" strapped to the camera when I used the 100-400l.

Inconspicuous it is not...

Agreed 100%. Start putting this newest generation VC and the ring USD focuing into their otherwise optically-great lenses, and I'm going to start buying a LOT more Tamron products. Especially in this price range.

I dont think anyone could disagree with that, unless you were a serious Canon 'fan boy'.

Just picked one of these up and I'm having the same issue as TheNewGuy01 back on page 16. I set it up on a tri-pod and had VC on for a 10second exposure. The end result looked like I tried to take it without the pod. I turned VC off and it was crystal clear. Is this normal or do I need to get in contact with Tamron?

It's normal. Most optical stabilization system assume there should be some movement so instead of stabilizing, it actually creates camera shake.

A few lenses are smart enough to know when the camera is on a tripod, but this one is not. Turn off VC when using a tripod and you'll be fine.

Have we got a statement or any confirmation that this has the auto panning detect on the VC? I know people have said it seems like it but im still not convinced.

I haven't seen any technical papers that say it is so, but using my tamron at the ice races last weekend, the VC worked very well with panning and I could visibly see it working only in one direction once I started moving the camera to follow the cars.
