Thanks Gregory & Misty!!

Supposed to arrive tomorrow....can't wait....like Christmas in July.

I've been putting a few dollars aside every month for five years, to buy a new toy. When I saw the 7D on the refurb list, along with the loyalty program, I decided to give up the Rebel that my daughter inherited from me when I bought the 40D a few years ago when they first came out. Now Canon gets the Rebel, my daughter gets the 40D.

She's been taking photography courses throughout her high school years, and she just got a scholarship and accepted into a commercial photography program at the university. I don't know where it will take her, but she is very passionate about it. I always encouraged her, even though I know photography is a tough field. But I'd probably be doing the same thing, if starting all over again. You gotta follow your passions...we don't get too many chances at starting all over again to do the things we really want to do in life.

Sorry....I'm rambling...

Don't worry! I can imagine you are happy! And let your girl find out if her passion will take her somewhere. It is good to follow your heart I think.

But for all that talk....here is a lunch photo :D!

Ha who knows? I mist the actual feeding time and saw only the licking and nibbeling of the bones.

hazy day made at least half the shots look like crap in color so I just converted the whole set. Plus those are Js, so it kinda fits anyway.

Wow, I just love the pp in these, I think they are a fabulous set :D

I think it's pretty amusing that people are comparing a 400 dollar lens against a 1500 dollar lens. The Canon SHOULD be a better lens....otherwise somebody is getting ripped off for buying Canon.

Hello folks - great choice on getting this lens ~

I had the EF 70-300 non-L and then upgraded to the L

ok, slightly better IQ, slightly better IS, slightly faster AF, great weather-sealing, great build...

this review of the Tamron made me come here to this thread to check things out, which I'm sure many of you have read:

http://www.photozone.de …-tamron70300f456vceosapsc (external link)

- he rates the Tamron above the EF non-L (already telling me the Tamron is a great lens!) but its 'not quite' to the L standard....
Pffft! The Tamron is a 1/3rd the price of the L but 'just under' its IQ?! That is why I am visiting this thread, considering selling my L due to finances. Yeah, I'd miss the weather-sealing peace of mind, but the more I think about it - the Tamron is making my decision less painful
.

I've not tried the Tamron, but reading the above review - and currently owning the L, I can say the L is absolutely a better lens in so many ways. But its not worth $1000 more than the Tamron in my opinion. I think the L should be $250-300 less and the Tamron based on IQ and performance and build compared to the L, should be $200 more... Tamron seems a no-brainer deal to me ~

How are you guys going for sharpness with this lens? I find it quite disappointing on how much it lacks of IQ, at least my 70-300mm Di Non VC.

The Non-VC is a completely different much older optical design. I'm finding the lens is very sharp on my full-frame 16 megapixel sensor, but I imagine on the 18 megapixel crop sensors it's not able to provide pixel-level sharpness wide open.
