i think for my wife's b'day, i'm going to get her a 60D + 17-55 2.8 IS... thoughts?

she's going to shoot more daily stuff and kids here and there while she learns...

maybe the 17-55 is bit much for her? but i do like the range, 2.8, and IS all in one feature of this lens...

this will also serve as my 2nd body when i need...

just wanted to run it by ya and get your blessings...

thoughts?

The thread title sounded as though you've found a way to transplant your wife's personality/memories into a new body.

60D + 17-55 is a good combo. That is a fair amount of scratch. I hope she enjoys using it. If not... I guess you've got 2 bodies. ;) (Yes, I see right through your devious plans.)

If I were buying a camera for my wife, I think I'd look at the 60d, but also the t2i (or whatever that's called). Not so much for the cost as the size. And I'd look really hard at the 15-85 lens. My wife HATES my camera with the 24-70 2.8 on it. She's much more comfortable with a smaller lens. Not sure how big the 17-55 is in comparison. Of course, if this is also for you, then that's a different story.

why is it that nobody believes that the PRIMARY reason for getting this camera is for wife's birthday?!?!

am i that obvious?!?!?!

ROFLMAO!

good point JoeW... the smaller size is a plus for the wifey but it does seem that she can handle my 7D here and there...

You already have a 7d so get her the 5dii with the 24-70L, I'm sure she'll love the weight of that combo. Then you can buy her a P+S. :D

how often does she shoot with your 7D. ask her what she likes about it and what she doesnt and form your judgement based on her answers...

when my girlfriend and i were picking a body for her, she was used to shooting with the 5D mark II that she was accustomed to the back wheel for aperture and EC changes and the joystick for AF point selection. It was obvious to choose between the 5Dc, 40d, 50d, and the 7D.

She crossed out used cameras so the 5Dc (unfortunately) and the 40D (another unfortunate move) was crossed out of the list. This gave us the 50d and the 7d. We then based it on IQ and we ended up with the 7D. It was as easy as that.

Now when it came to the lens, we picked the 24L mark I for obvious reasons. (1) She was used to shooting with primes that offered her flexibility in terms of apertures, (2) she was used to shooting in low ISO speeds to minimize noise, and (3) she hated the weight of the 24-70L. I'm thinking of giving her a 17-55 as well so that she will be happy with a good zoom range.

At the moment, she is learning how to use her 7D as time goes on. It's hard to teach her the technical things like AF point memory but she's getting it done. The camera is more or less now accustomed to her own set of custom functions. Unfortunately, i cannot load my own custom FNs in there without messing with hers (unless of course i do c1,c2,c3 functions which i don't want to do).

I guess it depends on her priorities... which could well be "small and light" so that she actually uses it. In that case, a good prime (50 1.4?) might be a good candidate. On the other hand, the 17-55 2.8 is an incredible lens, and I've gotten some of my sharpest shots of the kids with it.

(Then again, I'm planning on selling mine, so maybe I should just shut up! Damn Canon Loyalty Program, forcing me to upgrade from a crop to a full frame!)

I could suggest a 1D Mk IV plus a 300mm F/2.8 IS, but it might be a little heavy - try it & see!

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:
