I have included two edits, I am so undecided which looks better...
These are LR edits only-no other touch up at this point.
I am trying to achive some pop... this particular photo is of course under exposed. I have similar shots with better exposure, but I still am attempting to fix this one as I think its quite cute.
I took a sequence of shots while the baby's mom was getting changed into her uniform (it was an operation: love reunited shoot) she left the baby with me so she could get changed. So the sequence I am editing are snap shots while I was trying to keep the baby from realisng his mom was gone and he had been left.... I thought it be nice to include the snapshots in the album (being sent to the mom FOC since she is about to deploy for six months) as well as the nicely posed propper shots...
Other shots I posted (external link)
So advice on how to get better pop keeping skin tones correct would be great! Thanks in advance.

I agree with jerdan, color balance on 1 is pretty good, just overall too light. See how you like it after bumping the contrast up just a tad and bring the brightness down a bit.

#1 definitely. Over saturation of greens in particular always seem to look a bit artificial.
To give a bit more life to the skin tones you could make a simple mast and use levels.
I've tried but not sure how it will look....

Try reducing yellow green and blue. Green shadow light is the worst.
I can't see the pics but assuming the same green shadow light is present.
Then do a levels adjustment and adjust contrast, keep the exposure as bright as possible, use your highlight recovery tool if you have one and keep pushing the exposure to the right without blowing out any portions of the face, then use your black point to even it out (remove the foggy look) and put the contrast back into it.

The ones you posted at your link looked pretty good....at least as far as I can tell on this monitor.
