Impressed with IQ on 5D MKII

Before I ordered my MKII I had read loads of posts on here about how good the IQ was. I have to say I too am really impressed. The attached photos were taken in RAW, a small amount of PP in iPhoto on the MAC and then cropped and posted. I would never have got this much detail on this level of cropping on my 5D - I used a 24-70 @ 70mm...Just thought it would be useful to see what sort of crop you can achieve...

Wow, that's impressive. I'm currently looking for a new body. Can't decide between a 7D or the 5D mkii. This has me swaying towards the 5D. Thanks!

Most impressive, I´m thinking to buy one and give some rest to my 40D.
The IQ left me without words...

I'm currently looking for a new body. Can't decide between a 7D or the 5D mkii.

There seems to be a fair amount of posts of people who say you can't compare them as they are for different jobs. I don't really buy that as irrespective of what job you want to use them for you can still compare them surely?! The general rule seems to be MK II for landscapes and portraits, anything that you need fast and accurate AF for or easy to use video then the 7D seems to have it.

Having spent a month in NZ a decade ago (before I could afford this sort of gear!) not a week goes by when I wouldn't want to be travelling around NZ with a MK II and a 17-40MM - Who knows one day!

very nice!

Thanks

this is true - 5D II has MUCH more cropping power than my 7D. 7D images at 50% start to look kinda cruddy, where 5D II images, so far, look pretty damn good.

Perfect example of the 5d2 IQ.. The out of focus parts of the crop are so smooth.. A full size ISO 100 shot on my 7d isnt that smooth

If you are cropping down to that level ( 50% ) wouldn't you be better served by acquiring longer lenses to put more of the target on the sensor. Or as some say ' put more pixels on the target '?

I found that by selling my 70-200 L lens and getting a 100-400mm L, things improved dramatically. Now any cropping I do is minimal.

Very nice, hope its doesnt become a 5D mark II vs 7D battle again. Both are great. Different tools for different jobs.

I just picked up a 5D Mark ii today and I was looking at some test shots I took - I was zooming bit by bit amazed by the quality of the image straight out of the camera - I then realised I was viewing at 100% - never seen that sort of quality at 100% before not with my 40D or my, ahem, 7D...

I'm a FF lover so I'd choose the 5D over the 7D anyday. But yes, the 21.x megapixel FF sensor is definitely something to be in love with.

Yes, FF is great. IQ is better than crop...I hear that all the time but I'd like to get a camera that can focus (otherwise that IQ goes down to toilet), I have one it's called D700. For sports I pick crop that's 7D.

Amazing IQ. I couldn't get the MK II because of price but the 7D is nothing short of amazing IQ as well if you know what your doing. For the guy above to say 50% is cruddy, sounds like a user error.

Again. Amazing photograph.
