Bee snuck into my bedroom somehow so I snapped a few shots of him before letting him back outside.

Lovely NL shots.

I'd say he was a wasp rather than a bee. Must say I find wasps very elegant and beautiful creatures. They're always closeby when I'm shooting at this time of year and I've never had any trouble from them (but then again, I've never tried to go near a nest either ;)). Officially there are four times more than usual around this year on our island, which made it essential to move very slowly when picking blackberries

It was very kind of you to release him afterwards.

Props to you. I could never photograph bees. They always seem to try and fly up my nose. I feel very targeted even if there's other people around. :(

Thanks for the comments and correction on I.D. everyone. And I agree that the lighting is off, I'm still working on that part. I used a plastic cup taped to the flash head with bounty on the opening. The lighting seemed soft enough but maybe the wrong angle?

@jl123 It was a little bit awkward for me too because I was using an old Nikon 35-70mm reverse mounted on my 5D so I had to get pretty close to him! And because I had to preset the aperture the viewfinder was so dark I couldn't see if he was getting irritated with me or not. Luckily he was willing and neither of us were injured. I'm sure we were both equally afraid of each other.
