is the background suppose to be so noisey?

i'd prefer it if the pooch wasn't so puffed out
with her mouth closed, she'd look alot more proud.

gorgeous dog but, rodesian ridgeback cross great dane?

Very nice shot. Looks like a GD w/out the ears cropped.

Matty, as long as the subject is clean, who cares about the background, especially in this case where there's nothing but shadows in the rear? I'd prefer she wasn't slobbering all over, too, but
if you can get her to close her mouth for five seconds, then you're a better trainer than anybody I know.

I posted this photo of Lady not to show what a pretty dog she is, but rather to offer a point about
shooting portraits with configurations one wouldn't normally associate with portrait-taking. Many
candid portraits people take of their pets have some sort of annoying distraction in the background, even though much care was taken with setup and lens choice in order to get the best possible portrait.

I'd venture to say that shooting a portrait with a super telephoto setup isn't what most people, until yesterday including myself, consider a good idea. I suppose it's still not recommended, but my own opinion looking at this photo is that it worked here, luckily or whatever. And the point of this long-winded response is just to point out one should never take anything for granted as wrong just because it wasn't done by the book or according to established rules.

Have no idea whether she's rhodesian or what, but she has proved herself day after day to be one
gorgeous, adorable, intelligent, lovable puppy. And she loves to run. Thanks for your comments, folks.

One BIG puppy :) Good shot

100-400mm + a 2x teleconverter.

That's sure an elaborate setup for portraits :)

sorry mate, i didn't mean to offend, i've just got a habit of picking faults - and that's poor form of me considering i'm not exactly a top photographer.
