My canon lens arnt soft :)

Some good tips will try them out. I still need to learnt to "think" more about the shot rather spray and pray mentality.

Funky, I like it, probably a little too much (or not enough for the Iris awards?)

Im trying to use Dodge and burn and adjustment layers. The halo was on the RAW as well. So is to saturated?

Umm laptop screen a lot different to desktop. Oh better check brightness on laptop....yep right up. Laptop colours not as saturated either.

Weka,
Personally I think the saturation looks good, only thing that sticks out for me is the halo around the island. Other than that it is a great photo.

Looking for a bit of help from those of you with lens buying experience.
At the moment I have a 400D with the standard kit lenses and am looking to pick up another lens for general walk around use, with an eye to possibly taking it to South-East Asia in the nearish future. The options at the moment are:
Canon 50mm 1.4 - Possibly too similar to the 18-55mm kit lens/ Not quite "wide' enough?
Canon 35mm f2
Canon 24mm 2.8 - Possibly too wide?
I have no experience with any lenses other than my kit lenses so any thoughts or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Game on I reckon.

I reckon you might be right. Having a shinny new camera that is small and light enough that I have no excuse to not take it with me might actually get me taking pictures again, and enjoying it....we will see.

I really like the forground, no it doesn't look natural, but it works IMO. The sky on the other hand is bland, and doesn't balance the water.

I even tryed to dodge the halo and helped a little maybe needed more.

Scott the sky was flat and what ever light was coming from the right and low (5pm)

Walk around would be my main use, looking at around $800 at the top end.

I did think about going in that direction, but it is way outside my budget unfortunately and I am interested to giving a prime a go. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I think you should go wide: This is in your budget and a really fun lens. (and in your neck of the woods)
