Oh I forgot to mention, I got engaged a couple of weeks back :-)

Turns out being a wedding photographer makes it pretty easy to organize a wedding, I know the best venues, celebrants, entertainers, etc. All the big stuff's already booked, church, reception, celebrant, entertainer. We have Perspectives penciled in for photography, we couldn't find anyone we wanted in Wellington.

Hey Tim, Congratulations!

Mark & Tony, Congratus to you guys too that you got out and took some photos.
Some nice stuff there.

Getting buried under snow and ice here. Would be some nice photos of snowy landscapes if the sun would come out.

But it won't and driving is a royal P.I.T.A. at the moment. Last week I more time in traffic jams than I can remember in a long time. Thursday over 4 hours commuting!

Wow! Puts it into perspective for me here :) We have a stunning rural lifestyle, OK town 7 minutes away for most things (except takeaways after 8pm :|) and 45mins to central Christchurch and lots of people complain that I now live too far away, hehe

Normally I only need 30 minutes to drive to work. 48 km. But with the snow and ice on the roads, it slows things. And our new office is right next to the Munich Congress Centre, and last week there was a big building fair there which added to the traffic. So on Thursday I took over 2 1/2 hours to get home from work.

Sounds like my daily commute. Except in my case on random days it takes 1.5 hours instead of 30 for no reason at all.

Gidday folks, still shooting from time to time, but not a huge amount with the Canon at the moment as the Nikon with the wickedly good 18 - 70 is my go to for day to day stuff.

Off to the motorsports this weekend with the 10D. I have a borrowed 2.8 70 - 200 L with a 2x TC, my monopod, 4 batteries (10D is gripped) and the Nikon as backup (albeit with no decent zoom). Am I missing anything? (this is not a commercial shoot, just to keep my claws sharp).

And speaking of claws, 70 - 210 at 400 (2xTC) 1/60th ISO 400 F5.6

Hmm, My new toy is very good.
Sony DSC RX100 appears to be exactly what I was looking for.
Small, (fits in your pocket)
Light, and takes great photos.
For sports it takes up to 10 photos / second in burst mode.

Yeah that RX100's a pretty nice camera, I took it and a D700 on holiday and I barely bothered with the DSLR :)

Glad you happy with your new tool Peter.

Got a Canon 650D for school part of a canon deal so will have a play with that and the video side of a DSLR.

Gidday folks,

well, that was a bust. Great fast lens, body far too slow to do anything good with it - simply a case of not being used to that combination or expecting it to react fast enough - which it patently did not.

Result, 1 semi usable shot from the entire time - (to be fair we were only there for a couple of hours and there was lunch and a delayed race).

Might be time to retire the 10D ...

Yeah, we picked up a 1D2 with 300k clicks for a couple of hundred bucks the other day. The drive speed of the 1D with a 70-200 on it is phenomenal. The 1D2 definitely drives the lens fast, even faster than the 5D3.

1D series is great, once you use them you don't go back.
Got used to the 2 finger changing yet
Glad they changed it on 1D3 series and better menu.

Need to get out and about this year. About time we had a catch up. Its been years since we did anything as a group.

Yeah, nah. Won't be using the 1D2 for professional work. The 5D3 is better in every way except two:
- lens drive (not much in it, but just enough to be noticeable)
- 1D lets you save your settings, and there's about 50x as many settings on the 5D3, but no way to save/back them up!!
