Was supposed to be out on the harbour with Auckland Jet Boat Tours this afternoon, just about the time of the shake, no tsunami fortunately!

Trip got postponed due to the weather.

Yep, had to laugh.

However, someone from Wellington shouldn't throw stones; your well overdue for a big one there!

Hi all :)

(Dave S it's Rob if you do not recall, it's been a while since I've been on here haha)

I'm contemplating a Circular Polarizer and was wondering if anyone had a locally available recommendation.

Unfortunately because I apparently no longer believe in maintaining money, all my lenses (and most/all of the lenses of my 'wishlist') are 67 and 77mm filter sizes, which apparently makes filters painfully expensive.

Is there anything better / cheaper-without-being-crap than a Hoya or B+W available locally, or am I better of importing one from overseas? (And if so, where is good as B&H Photo want to charge $50USD shipping on a $119USD filter )

Thanks in advance :)

We have the Hoya's etc but bang for buck I personally recommend these - http://www.camera-shop.co.nz …arizing-filter-p-326.html (external link)

Have sold a truckload and only had great feedback on them.

hope that helps

Mark, are their ND filters good too? I'd like to be be able to use narrower DOF with my strobes. Right now I'm often at F12, I'd like to be closer to F4 occasionally, so I guess an ND8 Tianya would do the job?

Hey Mark, do you sell step down rings for those filters?

presumably step up rings do the same job? see: http://www.trademe.co.nz …her/auction-574061461.htm (external link)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Boo.

This should be a GKPE trip for the Aucklanders' (the ones who don't mind a bit of up hill, down dale stuff) and who can have a day off work.

https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1286293

Well worth it. Unfortunately the time of day that it is open isn't the best for photography but still a good day out.

Ahh thanks, yes all my filters are for 77mm and most of favourite lenses are 72mm so the 77-72mm would work.

Cheers!

Cheers :) I shall weigh up my options!

Bought an EOS 3000N for $20 off trademe and to my great surprise it appears to work perfectly (pending development of film). A happy occaision seeing as the batteries set me back $27; I'm always amused when consumables are worth more than the subject.

Can see how spoiled we are with modern DSLR's though - my 550D focuses approximately 3x faster (center focus point comparison) and I was playing around with my new 70-200L after work last night and only managed one exposure on the 3000N before the light became too dim for the iso400 film. Switched over to the 550D which imo produces perfectly acceptable exposures up to at least iso1000 and isn't even hugely bad at iso3200 (at least in comparison to how bad my 400D used to be @ iso1600).

Considering all other 'high-end' film cameras I've used previously have been manual advance, manual focus, I'm not really complaining though!

Will chuck a fast prime on it and see how it goes.

Playing around with the new 70-200L- I do approve of how nice the bokeh is on this lens (at least I think so):
