I am now running windows 10. I am sure that will improve the quality and composition of my photos :) :p

nice - I must rush out & install it immediately (or at least soonish once I've finished building my new p.c....)

Thanks for the compliment :)

It is software I have on trial from Topaz Labs called simplify. It works as a Photoshop/Lightroom and others filter. They also have another stand alone one called Impression. Both turn photos into paintings and sketches.

Thanks Joseph. The 10 installation went very well, did not cause me, a numpty, any grief at all. Looks pretty stable and has quite a number of apps that want to control the mike and camera and others that report back to MS. Same old same old. For me, it is not a lot different than 8.1, just some things in different places. Software I was using in 8.1 all seems to work in the new OS so that is a bit of a change ;) :-P :p

I tried it yesterday. Didn't improve my photo's, so I wound back to Win 7.....

Actually, it dropped my DVD drive, not recognized, dropped my Datacolor sensor, found the interface not to my liking and it was slower opening programs. Will give it another go in 6 months or so when the bugs have hopefully ironed out.

my new motherboard doesn't have an IDE interface, so currently I don't have a DVD drive either. Or Photoshop for that matter, until I find the install disc...

you don't need an install disk. get a usb pen drive and use this tool (external link) to write the iso image to a usb pen drive.

You can download the win10 image for the correct upgrade path from here. https://www.microsoft.com …ftware-download/windows10 (external link)

installing via usb will be quicker than trying to use a dvd drive.

it should be an upgrade, aka run setup.exe of windows 10 from within current version of windows. this is the only way to get your windows 7/8.1 updated for free.

this means you shouldn't have to install anything. if it's currently installed it should still work. all my apps including canon apps all work. even my games.

In truth I think my 'puter is considerably slower, earlier today I somehow managed to 'lose' my desktop and the tiles took over. The 'windows' button stopped working . Have got that fixed, truly dunno how, but had problems getting the mike, internal or external to work and Dragon Naturally Speaking is nowhere as accurate as it was. Seems I will have to retrain it, providing the mikes keep working. The power settings dont seem to work, it does not go to sleep automatically.

HP Pavilion 23 running i5-3470s at 2.90Ghz 16 megs ram. This is a touch screen desktop, which I do not use the touch facility, I suspect that may have confused Windows?
