Thanks for the info Mark. Silly me When I saw the pink tipped petals my thought was shallow depth of field ie wide open lens, whites and brights/hilites bumped up until blurred together, add some saturation to get the colour in the tips. All in Adobe Camera Raw. I have never used bright, exposure, curves etc as layers but in ACR. I dont use curves much as i always muck it up.

In general I have been struggling a bit health wise lately, well the last few months really so have not been out and done much at all. The other day I went to take some pics but it was too much bother so came home. I have the same problem learning PHotoshop, what gets past the major hearing loss doesn't seem want to stick in the brain. Enough moaning, so I try and cheer on the sidelines.

Thanks for taking the time to put that info up, truly is much appreciated.

I hope you feel better soon Chris and get out with that camera :)

the thing with Photoshop is that it's another big program to learn. You can find tutorials just on learning lightroom and then you can find a lot of tutorals just on learning photoshop. I have been using photoshop for 10 years and I am still learning. Like most people it's a case that you learn what what is needed to do what you want to do at the time. I still google how to do things within photoshop. so don't stress if you feel like you need to learn something.

Lightroom is very powerful and I just know enough to adjust the photo before exporting it in to photoshop where a lot of work is done. You can get a lot done with LR.

Has anyone read the book, A History of Photography From 1839 to the Present By Steven Heller?

I'm thinking of buying it. or can anyone recommend a good book on the history of photography that i can get in NZ?

what read a book, that doesn't quite sound right. :)

I have only brought a couple of books but I am at work at the moment so I can't say what they are.

I would recommend the BBC series The Genius of Photography. it's quite good and it does go thru the history of photography. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1288869/combined (external link)

this is a good list of docos on the subject http://petapixel.com …taries-about-photography/ (external link)

I think it's a good idea to learn the history of photography. the art of photography hasn't changed only the equipment we use to capture it and that's only changed by the image recorder. We still have a lens, the image is still upside down, we still have fstops and ISO and shutter speeds and we still have leading lines and composition rules.

In all honesty, I would research your local library.

^Sometimes being old has its uses :p

Thort I should really stop moaning and cheering and clapping and start doing. Revisited some old files and eventually made this. Gotta admit, I rather like it, still no layers but ;-)a .
