Does any one have any thoughts on the tamron 70-200 f2.8 image quality wise?

Been shooting some. Learning to shoot seascapes. Trying some people/portraits.

It's great when you don't have to leave the house for good views.

Learned that bad weather can often make for good seascapes.

Feel very fortunate that the Spirit of New Zealand visits our bays quite frequently. Especially when they anchor overnight, which makes for a great sight in the morning. Added bonus = only having to walk a few minutes from the house to capture this.

Planning = using The Photographer's Ephemeris to figure out the best location to shoot from to get the sun in the right spot. Luck = paddle-boarder coming into the scene just as the rays burst through the clouds.

Great photos!

Just FYI: instead of adding the same image to gallery twice (https://photography-on-the.net …7&mg=216258&i=i247415684), please use the new GALLERYIMAGE tag:

How-to: When a photo has been put in your gallery, for subsequent posts using the same image use "Pick from gallery" (or "Images -> from gallery" in mobile editor) tool to add photos to the post.

More about the galleryimage tag can be found in first paragraphs in https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1441776

We do not have (yet) a written rule for prohibiting multiple identical gallery images, but it is nevertheless what is advisable. Thanks!

Okay, thanks. Will make sure to do that. For some reason I thought if it was already in my gallery, it didn't allow me to add it again? Or maybe I'm thinking of something else. Regardless, I'll pay more attention from now on. :-)

Hey Fuzz how long did it take you to get the hang of luminosity masking?

Terrific shots Fuzz!

Not sure if you Photoshop users are aware of this, I'm still using CS5 so it doesn't apply to me.

A bit of a "Check Box" warning for CS6 & CC2015 users. Info courtesy of C D Tobie Blog.

Why are you converting the colour space on images in the first place?

Have you Calibrated your Monkey lately?

No idea why he would be doing it, perhaps if the file was going out to press and had to be in a CYMK colorspace??

Never come across that type of default setting before, I have CS5 set up to give me warnings if I inadvertently try to do something like that.

EDIT: Just had a closer look, the source was a generic RGB space going to a sRGB space. Possibly a file supplied by someone else and he was editing it? Who knows?

Thanks, all. Portraits aren't my thing, so the steampunk session (organized by another group) was a great learning experience. Especially in the complicated lighting situation inside the Auckland Museum.

Hey Fuzz how long did it take you to get the hang of luminosity masking?

Depends on what you mean by "get the hang"! :-) I picked it up pretty fast by looking at the video tutorials by Jimmy McIntyre and using his free Photoshop actions -- the actions create the luminosity masks for you, and then you have to manually select and blend as needed. The main thing that helped me is to do the blending gradually, with brushes at lowered opacity (and repeating as needed). I first tried brushing the masks with 100% opacity and they looked terrible. I still have a hard time with very strong transitions, e.g. if the sun is in the frame just after sunrise -- just can't get it to blend naturally near the disk of the sun. So it's still a learning experience.

Yep, very pleasant day, bit windy.

Looks quite calm there though.

I was standing on a ridge between two gullies, the wind was whistleing up my back, but yes it was calm and quite still at sea level.
