Thanks, it is the last in a 7 day nature challenge I did on Facebook. The others are on my flickr and funnily enough 6 out of 7 are the 400d xti with kit lens and one the 6D with L lens. That made me think!

The pear pic is awesome. This is the 100mm w/out IS, correct? I was trying to decide b/t the non-L and L.

Would you mind telling me what PP programs you used and how long it took to perfect this photo? I've been using LR and On1 for a little over a year and still have tons to learn. I am nowhere near as talented in PP as your picture depicts.

Thanks

Hello NZ shooters!

My mom has wanted to visit New Zealand for years and we have finally booked a trip to visit. We are going to be on a cruise so our time is limited in each port, but I'm looking for the "must see" things that may not be available through the ship as shore excursions. We will be there in February of 2017. We aren't necessarily looking for photography rich targets, but that's always a plus for me (not so much for Mom!) Also, Mom will be 78 in April so anything that requires strenuous hiking or climbing is probably not going to work for us!

We will be in the following ports:

Dunedin
Akaroa
Wellington
Napier
Tauranga (Rotorua)
Auckland

Thanks so much for any help you can give us!

Hi Becca
Just what you can get up to and view is really dependent upon the time in port (overnight/birth in morning, sale at night?)

Evening all, been a while since I posted here. Hopefully everyone is well.

I've had a bit of a clean-up, No 1 son moved back home (so were back to a full house and I lost my office ..... again....)

Anyway, I found a couple of things that are surplus and are free to a good home.

(1) Coken filter holder (P size I think) comes with 77mm and 67mm adapters. Grad ND2 filter, Grad ND4 filter, ND2 filter, ND4 filter, Blue Grad filter B2. I have some step up rings that may be suitable if your lenses are of different sizes.

(2) Hoya UV filter, 1 x 77mm & 1 x 67mm.

(3) Datacolor Spyder3Print printer calibration device & software. This was part of the SpyderStudio suite that I bought. Unfortunately, I broke the filter in the screen calibration device.
Comes in the small aluminium foam filled suitcase and with the Spyder3 Print and Spyder3Elite software. I am not sure but I think the display calibration software can work with alternative sensors.

Hey Becca, I am sure you and your mother will have a great trip to NZ.

Tauranga/Rotorua are two different locations, around the Tauranga there is this https://www.google.co.nz …000000:0x0f00ef62249d19e0 (external link) it's about a 45min walk and you will see it as it comes in to the harbour. The walk is flat and easy.

Auckland, well you are going to be around the harbour as well, there are plenty of boats etc and people around and you could get to see this: http://walksinauckland.com …oads/2012/07/IMG_3098.jpg (external link)

It all depends on the amount of time you are going to be around these locations.

as for the other areas, I can't say sorry as I haven't been around them.

Hey Mark

good to see you are still around, using the camera much.

............ the new job ...............

Ah sounds interesting, same line of work?

I had my 2nd anniversary of my new(ish) job on Friday. Seems to have flown. It was the same day as the big boss had his 40 year presentation/celebration.

yep the same, I am a sys admin for a small company. since I have started in October it's gone from 80 staff to 120 staff and only growing.

it does help that we rollout fibre across the Waikato.

Hi Becca,

I live in Wellington and during the summer we get a cruise ship arriving almost everyday, sometimes 2 in a day. Most of them arrive first thing in the morning around 0800 and leave at 1800 so you'll have a full day in most of those stops I imagine.

Wellington is a pretty walkable city, most of the 'attractions' are pretty close together but since you're travelling with your mum, walking may not be the best option.

You can organise a day trip to see Sea Lions at Red Rocks - this is the area where most of the astrophotography work is done, although not helpful again because you'll be here during the day!

A more relaxed option would be to take a trip to the Wairaapa wine growing region and do some wine tasting tours.

Wellington's also got NZ's national museum and always worth a visit specially if the weather's not ideal outside.

Here's a pretty good resource for finding things to do in Wellington:

All the best!

Hi Becca
Akaroa is orriginally a French settlement/fishing village and still retains that flavour. I should imagine there will be a bus ride to Christchurch, flat and still rebuilding after a major earthquake some years ago. Very modern mixed with some gothic traditional. Should be an interesting view if you get time.

Dunedin is inclined to be hilly, but there are penguin nests locally and a purpose built lookout to see them if my memory is correct. Bring your camera as NZ is very photogenic which you can see on my flickr page, she suits your style photography :)
