Critique is always welcome ....never thought about it must re look at that ..... Yep your correct but 1 half is more weighted than the other.
I also have a tendency to get focused on the horizon. The reason I suspect is because with landscapes and you are photographing a scene which delights you, it is hard to choose the subject because land, sea, sky are all working together in some sort of unison. Often it is extremely hard to choose which one you want to accentuate.
I seem to always focus on horizon ....wonder if habbit from doing panos hand held.........
I do think it stems from the desire to get as much as possible in focus, I notice also you are using fine apertures which will increase your DOF (depth of field). The 17-40 lens also has an inherent large DOF due to its very nature, ie wide angle. The large DOF allows you to show the beauty of the scene in considerable detail to encourage the viewer's enjoyment!
Oftentimes, I am trying to condense into my pictures the full experience of being there, I would like to capture the smells, the breeze, the sounds and put them in my pic as well!
