Sure is handy having a big sports field 50 metres from my house for test flights. I figured out the camera easy enough. These are 5 bracketed raw shots combined in Aurora HDR.

<rant> Why has Adobe removed photo merging (HDR, panorama etc) from Lightroom CC? Grrrrrrr! <rant>

I used to get both PS and LR. I do believe photo merging is in Photoshop, but that may have changed also.

Lightroom classic has it, Lightroom CC does not. Cloud enabled, merging disabled. If I had known that I might not have changed plans, but it looks like Aurora will do the job for me and opens the door to luminar when my adobe subscription expires.
The little sensor in the drone lacks dynamic range making HDR merging pretty much essential for contrasty scenes.

...or you could look at ACDSee which appears to be much more than Luminar and could be more suited for your abilities. I am surprised I have not run into ACDSee before!

how do you get on getting permission to overfly said sports fields?

The CAA says that you must “have the consent of the property owner or person in charge of the area you are wanting to fly above.” Which is the council, and the council says you don’t need to get permission as Auckland council has already granted it. Just don’t be a pest.

They are some good shots.

I had thought about a drone but apart of the learning factor I don't think it would get that much use.

I have been suprised how easy it has been to learn to fly, I was zipping around the park within a few minutes of liftoff. I’ll stick to open spaces for a while though. It remains to be seen how much use the drone will get, which is why I went against some advice I got to spend a lot more on a Phantom 4.

Yeah, I have wanted a drone for a while, but if you read the CAA rules it makes it sound like you have to get written permission from somebody every time you fly, which put me off buying one. It wasn’t until I found and understood the Auckland Council policy that I went ahead and bought the drone. I will mostly fly around Auckland, and will have to look for the rules before I take it anywhere else.

It seems that many councils have different ideas on drone use.

I quite often read Bruce Simpson's interesting blog (aardvark.co.nz), and the South Waikato District Council comes up as a frequent topic.

read in a job description today that I thought Weka might find amusing:
