From 1 end of piha to the other (having issue uploading second image)

Looks like a big slice of rock resently came down

I noticed the halo too, and the horizon isn’t straight. I wonder how it would look in portrait orientation with more sand than sky, focusing on the reflection on the wet sand, rule of thirds or there abouts rather than the horizon right through the middle of the frame? Looks like your sensor could do with a clean as well.
But it is a great photo. Nice lighting, interesting reflection, colour, and a bit of drama.

That halo could simply be moisture in the air reflecting sunset.

BTW: Piha is a Finnish word for "yard". I found that in Maori it is a word for "the divided ripple at the prow of a canoe". It's great that you learn new things every day :)

Pekka how are you? Yes we see the same with the moon sometimes that big circular halo.

Scott and chris thanks for constructive critique .......went back and re looked at editing and made changes. Chris I need to work out how to get rid of glowing edges, I thinks its caused by to much clarity slider ...... off to youtube we go :)

Thanks, but Scott's was far more constructive than mine.

Halo in RAW? what is your camera set at, RAW should not have any sharpening as far as I am aware. I used to shoot in neutral? on the Canon.

You are possibly correct, either clarity or sharpening. However most software lately seems to have some form of halo correcting setting (I have left Adobe as well as Canon due to my own inconsistancies.)

This will make you laugh. Piha? PIHA!!!!? I thought it was Whatipu from your first pic! :-D

Ps that video is about deleting it from an HDR, I did not realise you had shot this as an HDR but used one shot from your 10 stopper ND?

You spotted the glow, The video also said happens with clairty it just gave me the answer to fix. Shot was not HDR and not with 10 stop just CP filter

I use NIK from google and some filters add it and also pick up more dust spots.

I need to stop been so lazy and rushed with my editing

Busy trying to learn global and local adjustments rather than 1 filter does all for every photo ...... again need to follow above line

Scott liked the first one, nice balance between highlights (the sun) and branches

Um... I have personally never been a fan of a white disk in dawn/evening shots but it seems to have become acceptable over the last few years. I think I prefer the 2nd shot but wonder, is that a halo around that branch? and also maybe in the 2nd one, let the black have a little definition by opening the blacks and shadows a little, rather than just a flat black silhouette? The top one is fine it has more going on than the lower one.

I have just ordered (last night) one 10 stopper screw in filter and one Hoya CP from ebay.

I'm not seeing a halo (but I'm not wearing my glasses) maybe it is the out of focus background, as I focused on the branch. I took a shot with the background in focus, but I didn't like it as much. As for being acceptable, I think it is, because that is what I was intending, but I'm sure it isn't everybody's cup of tea. My eyes didn't have enough dynamic range for the scene, so I think any camera would struggle with lifting the shadows when it was pointed straight at the sun. I tried, and it wasn't pretty.

Thanks Tony. :-)

I took the drone up this afternoon over the mud flats at low tide.
