Thanks, and thanks, I didn't know the G9 had been added.

I looooooove tittles :p

As for the title Fairy, I guess I didded it myself, funny how things come back to bite sometimes, eh. But yeah I like what the fairy chose for me. Fitting it is! :-P

I’ve had my title almost 9 years now. Still ticking :-D

I haven’t taken any photos for over a week, but I did get twelve 12x16 prints done, and a 20x30 of this

Very nice Scott. I haven't had anything printed that big for a while. I have finished the UK trip book a few days ago. I don't think I could be a pro, it takes to much time to get books completed. I had thought of doing a book of my best photos but that's going to take some time too.

I was about to say that I haven't taken any photos for months. But then I remember I had taken the film camera out and had taken a few.

it's not yet developed so you will have to wait.

I would presume that print is not being mailed to my place? :p The 14-140 lens is an amazing thing, so much so that altho' I bought 3 lenses, I have still only used one! I truly did not realise how versatile and how good the IQ is throughout the entire range.

I got some work reviewed by an independed person the otherday. I wanted a clear set of eyes that didnt know me from a bar of soap and someone who would be frank and honest :)

"I had a look at your site and there are a few themes coming across in your photos. I can see a lot of potential but some "mistakes" that crop up regularly which if corrected would improve your work.......... The composition needs to be improved ....... but the exposure is again the problem"

So composition and exposure ......... he asked what was the subject in a few photos, when I looked it wasnt clear so time for some reflection and back to basics ......again :)

I think im shooting to wide all the time (17mm) trying to get everything in without thinking about what is the subject and focusing on that.

I used to teach basics, and always it was subject, subject, subject. What are you trying to show/say? Of course this was mainly to explain the use of aperture and depth of field to say isolate the subject from the wallpaper.. I too, have fallen into the too wide trap and try to show too much. My recent rainbow is a classic example.

Some stats from lightroom (landscape photos only)

5D total photos 9277 most used lens 17-40 4057 most used focal length 17mm 2380
1D total photos 9409 most used lens 17-40 5475 most used focal length 17mm 3698

So basically 35% of my shots are at 17mm

this is where I get confused, when it comes to landscape how do you define what the subject is.

isn't the subject the landscape itself. I always got confused by that.

Tony, have you ever printed anything or is it just online?

It is a very good lens as long as there is reasonable light and aren’t looking for shallow DOF.

It’s funny how we view our own work differently. I was recently contacted by Panasonic to ask if they could use one of my Instagram photos on their website. I liked the photo enough to post it on Instagram, but I don’t think it is one of my best. It made me wonder why they picked that photo over all the ones that I like much more?

Remember I said you will always find someone who likes or admires your photo? :p, that is a prime example. They may have chosen it because it is current trending, current fashion ad infinitum, but ultimately because they like it in the context they want.

On subject, you need to know in your mind what the subject is. My rainbow is a bit wide, some wide landscapes are spot on correct, but for viewing on internet, not so good because it becomes too small to make impact.

So a wide view of a river estury, a warship, a waka close up are all good, but a wide view of Auckland City from Devonport Wharf does not work so well unless there is a context ie narrative , description, tourist brochure etc.

We all have our own styles (I am talking about us as a group). There is nothing wrong with that, nor is it to be sneered at. I actually am not that keen on being another Brian Matiash.

That's why I get my prints done at 20x30" and one of the reasons I don't like Instagram. Large prints give any photo more impact than a little phone screen ever will.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Nice, but I don't remember there being a strong northerly today. (everything is leaning to the right a bit)

One year ago today :-D

You were higher up than Devonport Wharf! :p:-D Good sharpness for f22 (diffraction country) and actually not wide but I like it!
