we all need new tele lens

Just a note about last 2 photos, ive gone 100% photoshop ….. no filters no add ons. Bulk of work is done in raw, then tweaking in PS

I like Photoshop Camera Raw, wished it was stand alone.

yes photoshop RAW editor has come a long way. Now with all their adjustment brushes a lot can be achieved before its brought in.

Mark how many focus point do you need

I would have been more happer with the 6D if the all the autopoints was cross type. I find as I am getting older and I now wear glasses. So I am relying on the AF points more.

The film camera 3D has better AF than the 6D. (BTW this camera is very nice to use)

I am waiting to see what canon does with the mirrorless format.

But I have a big shopping list,

in no order, (in other words, how they come out of the brain)

A new camera,
medium format film camera
carbon fibre tripod,
NAS (don't have one)
graphics cards (I do some gaming and the current card is really old)
which could lead to a computer upgrade
stand up desk,


well ok its not that big.

Im sure it had more white paint when I owned it ………..

So mr and mrs weka2000 go to ProGear ……. they look at a sigma 150-600 and then a canon 100-400 mk2.
Weka2000 cant make up his mind mrs weka says get the more expensive 1


weka2000 leaves with a 77mm CPL filter …………..


Duncan the 100-400mk2 is a great lens now is no longer push and pull and 77mm filter to match all your other ones.
Also looking at sample images I took quite sharp with very little CA.


Went and looked at new laptops at PBtech this afternoon ……..

I need a new laptop, for last 15yrs haven't spent any money on computers etc as old job paid for them all. As for photography gear I've brought a new tripod and 77mm CP. Still undecided re siggy 150-600 vs Canon 100-400 so it can wait. This stage the canon has more advantages. I don't have to buy new filters, its smaller, and I have a canon 1.4TC mk2 in my bag.

You don't have to defend your decisions to me you know, I was just indulging in a little good natured joshing. If you need something that gives you continued pleasure, if you don't need the money to pay the rent (so to speak), then buy, enjoy, and don't feel guilty. We are allowed to enjoy this life.

Yep that's what my wife says.

Found laptop but muppets put in a 128 GB SSD hdd + 1TB sata drive. its needs to be at least a 256 SSD.

Back to PB tech ……. Narrowed down to HP 17" screen 16GB ram smooth mouse pad …….. just need to sort out HDD setup

I own both (havent gotten round to selling the MkI). If you can afford the MkII, then go for it. The image quality of the new version is so much better. It takes the 1.4x converter very well (with the converter to my eyes it ends up still better quality than the MkI without converter). If you are shooting hand held a lot the update to the IS is significant - I find I'm getting more keepers in questionable light.

I actually miss the push pull of the MkI - I found it very natural for tracking flying things (Birds and Planes).

As for comparisons to other big lenses - I shot a couple of weekends ago with my girlfriends Sigma 50-500. I found I prefer the results from the 100-400. The 50-500 focus speed was a lot slower - leading to more missed shots, and the quality isnt quite there. I found cropped 100-400 shots were better than the uncropped 50-500.

I think the new 150-600 siggy has better IQ than the 50-500. I did notice that the 150-600 had bit if vignetting at 600mm. 100-400 Mk2 is nice lens but I didn't test with 1.4 TC

Road trip this weekend have to fly down to Palmy to bring back a motorhome …… may get some photos
