Yeah, 4TB drives are about $200 now, 2TB are a lot cheaper.
SSD's make a huge difference, your current CPU won't be working at it's full potential if it's still working from a spinning disc.
But, the current gen of CPU's are also a LOT faster, but it means new board, CPU, Ram and adding SSD's.

I do occasionally get ideas of doing some 4WD, but then I remember I have no idea what I'm doing and would likely get stuck somewhere

That's is why I said about shooting film. Since shoot film (I am picking up 3 roles on the weekend) I find my time with digital is different. There was a time I just clicked away. These days I have slowed down and look before taking the photo.

The photo has to be in the mind before taking. If I fail all other times with the camera settings and post processing then that's on me. But at least I have an idea with the photo before pressing the shutter button.

I would get all new. You will be amazed on how quickly things will work.

In response to Mark and the film comment. The only time I thought about it was yrs ago with the camera that shot pano format. I know what you are saying but the same could be done with a 1gig CF card to limit number of shots.

There is a amount of self control with a 1GBcard. You can cheat and take an extra card.

Film is different, 24 frames and you know that you don't want waste them all. Also you ISO is set and can't be changed. You have to work around the limitations you have.

It would definately screw with your pocket!

BTW my first memory cards were rated in MB, non of this GB stuff.

When it comes to composition and execution, look at this fellows work. Magnificent.

nothing I'd look at & say worth printing... actually wondering if it would be worth turning IS off, and trying a monopod for stability.

No looking at the LCD and limited ourselves to the number of photos we could take during the day.
Was an interesting experiment, and certainly forced you to think more about what you were doing.
