and then there are all the new lens ……….. why cant canon have a 5Ds with better iso and no video rubbish and tilt screen ……… trouble is do I need it ….. ummm

there's always a 1D-X mk II... (plus you can keep all your existing lenses!)

you may need to increase your hard drive capacity though

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I remember them - got sold off to D-Photo and thereafter abandoned... the spammers took over so they shut it down rather than clean it up.

OK thanks. Was wondering if I had the site incorrect. Shame, as people where were very helpful on a range of issues, and loved seeing the images.

Unless your camera is broken, you could just wait?

Rumors are there is a more "pro" version of the EOS R coming out.

The 5Ds is also getting old and Canon knows that this needs to be replaced. To see where they go is going to be interesting.

Well went to camera shop. Held it in my hand, got talking and I will miss my canon lens range. So yes lets see what next year brings, and yes the 5Ds is getting old.
Nice camera but didn't make me go wow like my 1Ds did.

Canon is a complete system, but there are a couple of features I need, trouble with getting old and eye sight not what is used to be :)
Be nice if you could get an add-on screen to be lot bigger than LCD

I just stumbled on this thread this evening while idly looking at POTN, and noticing a thread in RTAT. Be interesting to see other's takes on NZ :-)

Welcome from me, the late comer :)

The local camera store had a expo day today. Canon, Nikon and Fuji was there. (I think sony but didn't pay to much attention to them)

I got to play with the EOS R and the 50 1.2 R and the 28-70 F2 R

I have to say that it's a nice camera and those lense are also very nice. The 28-70 is large and it stands out against all the standard glass that they had.
The feel the camera in the hand (like all canon cameras) feels good the in hand I could use it very easily. With the 28-70 on it, it feels front heavy but that shouldn't be a surprise. Put the battery grip on it and it kinda equals the weight. Comments around the position of the AF button on the back to me is correct, it does feel like it's in the wrong place. But that's only because I am trying to figure out where things are. Once you are used to the location of everything then I am sure it would be second nature.
The viewfinder is very good (just remember I wear glasses now so eyesight isn't the best) but it's large, it's clear and to be honest it looks better than viewfinder.

I don't feel it's a camera that you can use without learning it first. When I went from the 40D to the 6D, I could pickup the camera and use it straight away. With the short time I had it, I found it hard to find away to control the AF points via the touch screen. And not because it's an action/movement I typically don't do, but because I found it hard to select the AF points. I could get it to change the type of AF points but not in the way I normally would via the 6D. So sitting down with this camera, it would take a couple days of going around and getting familiar with where the new settings are located.

If I had the money would I get one, more than likely. The camera has many more features (I like the manual AF focusing assistance) than what I currently use.

One thing I did check is how the camera works in manual mode, on the 6D it never feels like it's natural. On the EOS R, both dials for the aperture and the shutter are in good reach and if I as using it in manual I feel like I could. Also it's weird not to have the black out as the mirror goes up when taking a photo.

So while they was there I looked at the Fuji gear. (I like the old style dials and a quick way to access them) Fujifilm GFX 50R ok was in the hand but it didn't feel like the EOS R did. The shutter sounds loud but for me the layout wasn't natural. This will because I had never used a Fuji camera. But while it didn't feel like the EOS R it was still ok. I could use it and the AF seems to be quick. I also held the Xt-3 in the hands too and this is way smaller and it didn't feel that nice in the hand. the Fujifilm GFX 50S on the other hand, you could tell it was heaver and it felt really nice in the hand. I wish I could have given them ago and use them for a few hours. It would be nice to stick on a macro lens and walk around the gardens and see what could be done. Shooting medium format would be nice.

Didn't get a chance to look at the Nikon stuff.

My Samsung Note 8 has an app that can control camera and act as bigger LCD so may try to find a way to attached to hot shoe. Because the 1Dsk3 has older OS it is limited in functions

Mostly yeah but canon don't offer something like the a7r2 yet, high resolution high dynamic range mirrorless. Just use my Canon lenses.

As for hellophoto I used to be an admin but yeah dphoto took it over (bought from my mate) then promptly ignored it to death. I left several years ago.

Yeah, that is what I was talking about. I thought operating a camera remotely would be fantastic, but nah, not for me. However a drone would be different because it can shift the camera.

Does the Canon Camera Connect work for that model? Not that I can get it going for the M5! Despite it telling me it was connected when I set it up a week ago.
