EOS-R5 video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvU4WNb6-J4 (external link)

Apparently they are doing a small pinky finger grip as I found the R series grip is only 3 fingers wide.
The screen articulates but hanging out from side is all about video guys. Add to this the RF lens and there cost.

Lets see what they release next as there is mean to be a 5DS replacement.

Conclusion

For the money, features etc I would be better off selling up and moving to Fuji MF ( a 10 year camera like my 1Dsmk3)

Hopefully we will see more secondhand fuji gear coming soon and more lens selection.

Right I will shut up now and let the G.A.S pass :)

Why can't they use existing lens mounts .... why change with every camera system? Oh I know $$$$$$

I use my Canon lenses on my Sony.

weka2000 wrote in post #19091628 (external link)
I believe it has to do with the distance of lens to shutter, that's why adapters are different size depending on make of lens

Canon on their 3rd change FD EF RF then there is EF-S and ????

EF-M

Have thought about Sony? The alpha range is great.

I have a thing for cameras with a "S" in their name .... 1Dsmk3 5DS etc GFX50S :)

Im in contact with a couple for GFX50s Auckland owners, 1 moved from D850 so getting their thoughts etc

Before I leap ProGear does hire the GFX50s and lens out. So would do that first and test.

Not a cheap upgrade it would be last camera till retirement.

lens to get for GFX50s

23mm 18mm $4,930.00
32-64mm 25-51mm $4,388.00
100-200 79-158mm $3,769.00
1.4TC 110-221mm $1,600.00

$14,687.00

Will do my biannual pop in to this thread, been looking at those new R things too, it's really almost a system change to make the most of it, but like a Sony you can use your "old" Canon lenses with an adaptor.

Been running my 6D for over 6 years now (not as impressive as Tony!) I think that is my longest serving camera, must almost be time for an upgrade...

Trouble is still need a lens ......but wait and adapter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsz2HhIt8zc (external link)
results on wide lens not so good ........

weka got G.A.S :)

following up from Tag141 idea
https://www.photoshack.co.nz …DMI-On-Camera-LCD-Monitor (external link)

I did try my app called DSLR controller on smartphone connected to 5D but exposure read out way off and didn't always work

There is a cheaper way of getting in to medium format, film.
https://www.ebay.com …887ea8:g:mE8AAOSwuj1e9AUF (external link)
With that camera you still have $5,185 to spend on film and development.

You can start off with FUJIFILM Fujichrome Provia 100F which is $21 per 120 roll, which will give you about 10 photos, to get it developed is $20 per roll.

So if we use 1/2 of the remaining money for film at about $30 per roll (some film is cheaper than others as you would want to try different film out) that will give you 86 rolls of film so that would be a total of 860 photos in total. That leaves the other 1/2 for development that is a 129 rolls that can be developed.

A much cheaper way of doing medium format than buying a digital camera and finding out you don't like it.

and you can get to try something new every time you change film stock.

The main thing that stops me from getting to the system is cost. The cameras cost to much, the lenses cost way to much. In fact it's cheaper to go to another brand.

Sure the new cameras are very good and have a lot of features but all new cameras are more than what I need.

After I wrote the post I thought about it, and different adapters, and realised why ...

RF lens are not much lighter than EF but you are right about the wallet :)

seems to depend on the lens - some are lighter, some are actually heavier than their EF equivalents - lord knows why...

Did a bit of a check as to weight comparison between 1Dx and and R5 and assorted lenses (R5 is about half the weight of the 1Dx) comes to about 1Kg total, not that I'd ever lug the whole lot anywhere but useful to see what the difference is anyway.

G.A.S is gone after a really long walk out Whatipu. In fact I went almost half way to Karekare (worked it out just about 10km I walked). Been a lot of rain heaps of inland lakes but also lost of really soft sand sitting on top of water. Got a couple of scares as I sank and sand moved. Worst was coming back after sunset when I couldn't see a think and no torch.

New small backpack is lot better on back about 4kg total. 2 lens 24-105 and 100-400 im going off 16-35 as makes background too small.

Photos later as I'm going to slow down posting and do a better job. Started following rule of thirds with some conscious effort rather than having horizon in center. I picked up that habit when doing panos and I used horizon as guide to keep image level. Tried a 2 shot horizontal pano a couple of times results are not to bad.

Part of this is to do with the 2 lens thinking how do I get a 16mm wide look with a 24mm focal length.

I still need to slow down and think composition a bit more

1 Think I have always found with Canon is the noise at low ISO 100 in shadows its bad

Why am I getting a magenta cast in sand its saved as srgb??????

In the past, I have been lost between there, the Lodge and the carpark just after sunset in the dark. Like you, no torch. Frightening experience, found my way back to the car by pure instinct.

The sand is wet, therefore it has water in it which will reflect the red in the sky?

Oh dear I am in a right spring clean mood .......besides doing my websites I decided it was reformatting my laptop time.
Lots of work to be done on website esp redoing all the photos. I really need a style and system to have a standard look and feel

Will close down my 500px page once done.

After years of using Canon SLR's (digital and not), I finally have something that moves fast enough to test shooting in AI Servo.

Up until now for reasons unknown I haven't had confidence in the system to use anything else, well turns out it works great!
