NEWS UPDATE

we have sold house and brought another .......while I wanted to move to south island my wife wouldn't have a bar of it so we compromised. I do get my snow capped mountain's rivers and lakes within a short drive

where did I buy :)

No new camera gear just yet I have to justify switching systems which gives canon time to change my mind . I wanted to get to Otago for autumn colours but not sure if I will have time and money before we settle. However once settled will have both so will get down for a week once snow starts to build up.
Decided smaller week trips better than a 1 big trip.

ok where?

Just be aware, where ever you go, you take yourself with you and people will still react to you in the same if not stronger way. Best wishes,

So nows the fun bit ....planning my South Island trips. Was hoping to get down for autumn colours next month for a week. Then week in middle of winter and at some point week doing west coast but may do that spring.

Gear update.

Did a price for moving to fuji, came to conclusion I could do a lot of travel for same amount. R5 isn't going to beat 5Ds for 7K. EF glass and DSLR bodies not worth much now secondhand. May treat myself a lens 24mm Tilt and Shift and maybe a nisi filter system. The best thing is the move will give me a whole area to explore and bring back the landscape passion.

Have you looked at the new resolution doubling feature in Adobe RAW, had a play, it's pretty amazing it seems to understand the image, turns a 50MP image into a 200MP image, an example here, although possibly a best case for success:

back from progear looking at second hand GFX50s, found out my secondhand 5Ds only done 5000 clicks. The reason for move is better dynamic range bigger image (not that bigger it seems) and tilt screen that has touch.......not interested in R5
will keep my 1dsmk3 and 5 L lens.

Down side to GFX is cost of glass.

Would you use an adapter & Canon lenses?

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

looking into that ....mixed reviews

can only afford 1 lens 32-64 which is about a 25-50mm equivalent .... wider I can do a 3 shot pano

fuji is releasing a 50s mk2 soon so original will drop again in price, you think canon glass is expensive nearly $5k for a 23mm = 18mm FF

Progear do lens and body rentals so 3 days cost me $600 which is not a bad way to test before you buy.

Isn't the adaptor issue more around AF speed? Is that an issue doing landscapes? Lowers your initial cost of entry reusing some glass.

Some adapters are MF only. Techart does one seems to be best https://techartpro.com …ilm-gfx-autofocus-adapter (external link)

At this stage the plan is to keep 1dsmk3 and 16-35 F4 / 24-105 F4 mk2 / 70-200 f2.8 mk2 / 100-400 mk2 as I upgraded all my lens for 5Ds. The 1ds also used for all my godox lights and outdoor lighting

Would sell 5D3 and 5Ds.
However there is talk of a R5s .....basically a high MP version on R5 ........

part of all this gear talk is to solve some physical issues .... besides disks out in neck and lower back (both need fusion) left knee doesn't like to be bent for long thus I need articulated screen, and eye sight (need reading glasses) I've had to reduce weight of my kit this is why I got 5Ds and only 2 lens in smaller back pack

That's why I started thinking of a GFX I would only have 2 lens and same weight body as 5D the GFX50s gave me same body weight but better quality sensor and better dynamic range esp in dealing with shadows.
Down side is cost but cant have new camera setup and see the south island.

So at this stage I will wait and watch see what canon does and see what fuji does this year. In mean time once moved get out and take some photos

Again going GFX path is another 10yr camera .........
