Or is it.

Not that any airport baggage handlers would be dishonest, but if they were .....

That's one reason I don't use zippered cases! :) But in any case having to use TSA approved locks means they have a master key anyway so none of your gear is always 100% safe. I use a hard side Pelican case when traveling (no zippers) so at least it helps against the zipper thieves. :p

Worrying!

Yet another reason why my high value stuff never gets checked in!

I think TSA would steal a common rock if they find a lock on a suitcase. LOL I have wondered if it isn't better to pack everything in a burlap bag and just tie the top closed. Maybe then even the Hope Diamond would arrive unmolested. (joke)

For camera gear and airlines, if I can't fit it into a bag that will, in turn, fit under the seat in front of me then it stays home! Sorry, I just don't trust TSA with my expensive gear :(

I never check expensive gear. Too scared it would get damaged if not stolen.

For many of us we have to pack too much gear for carry-on only. There are times where a bag/case must go into the cargo hold like when flying a small aircraft. This is where a TSA approved lock come in handy. Those baggage handlers can't open the locks.

I don't worry about stolen gear beyond the fact I may not have it available when I get to my destination. Thats why insurance is a good thing to have.

Pack a starter pistol with your gear and they will take better care of your luggage.

Regardless of the fact that it doesn't help Neil, it's great info. Thanks for sharing.

No expensive photo equipment in checked luggage. TSA just doesn't engender honesty or integrity. My equipment is with me in an Urban Disguise 70. Two DSLR bodies, lenses, speedlites, misc accessories. No worries. No anxieties. No loss equipment.

That honestly can't be much more expensive than checking it with airlines ;)
