Yeah that is showing the front/back (I can never remember which) focus issue. Its focused on the gold battery and the batteries in focus should be split front to back. However, there is a focus issue in that one so the batteries to the back are more in focus.

I think my pictures are showing the same effect where it's focusing more towards the back end..is this something I can fix or does Sigma have too?

If your camera had micro focus adjust you could improve it (rebels don't have it) otherwise sigma

hahah. this is a constant issue with all of the sigma 50s that i have tested - 3 copies. it shows signs of front focusing precisely what you are experiencing. don't worry the 50L isnt much better.

All that test shows is that the autofocus locked on the wrong battery. Stagger the spacing between the batteries about 2 inches so the AF doesn't get confused, then try again.

Okay now I'm just unsure, is it user error or is it this lens? I guess I should hold onto it to do further testing..

Clearly seems to be front-focused to me - it's showing up not only on the battery shots, but also on the other shots, where there was little possibility of locking onto the wrong target.

At least it's *consistently* front-focused, though - the 50L tends to focus all over the place, depending on the distance to the subject.

Right now the only thing going on in my head is that I should not have anything in front of my subject. Sucks because my photography is half with cars and the other half with people and all know things get in the way. D<

This lens is frontfocussing, he said he focussed on the energizer, and the battery infront is sharp = front focus.

Did you smell he focussed on the wrong spot or something?

I contacted the Sigma peeps and it does need to be sent in for repairs. I got it going to Sigma via 2 day express and only paid $15 via USPS with tracking; and my camera store wanted $35 to ship back to Sigma...

I guess I'll keep you guys updated; I'm upset but I hope Sigma will fix it's issue and send it back beforehand...maybe it's wishful thinking at this point.

Did you ever actually go out and get "real world shots" with the lens before sending it back? It seems like a lot of the people experiencing front-focusing issues immediately take wide open shots of random stuff at MFD indoors in sub-par lighting conditions.

Unless a majority of the people here are professional box and battery photographers, I find a lot of these "tests" hardly conclusive.

Yes you should worry !!
My new sigmalux front focus severly on my 50D, and the symptom varies a great deal depend on subject distance. My copy is going in for calibration
