Wait for the Dell U2311H to go on sale again and buy 2 of them.

That was my plan, but my friend is telling me that the 24 HP is really nice, especially the resolution and the 2311 is known to have light bleed issues

I don't believe that... I've owned several Dell UltraSharp monitors and never had this problem. Anyway, Dell is quick to rush out a replacement unit in case you're unlucky enough to get a defective one.

I'm not a Dell fanboy by any means, but just going by specs, reviews, price, warranty, and customer service, I think the U2311H is currently the best deal in its class.

My advice still remains-- Buy the best monitor you can comfortably afford. And leave room in your budget for a calibration system.

I respect your advice, and I'm not saying it sucks at all, I just have been reading online for a few days and the lower left corner has been brought up a few times, and there has been minor reports of green tinting on the right side. My co-workers 2311 had this issue, Silverish haze when in the left section and said "Dealing with Dell took forever"

The thing to remember is none of these brands make their own display panels, and they all use the same e-IPS panels sourced from LG (or one its many subcontractors). So it probably doesn't matter whether you get a monitor from Dell, NEC, HP, or ViewSonic.

Two years ago, the "hot" budget monitor was the Dell 2209WA. If you read the lengthy thread on that model (in the Computer section), you'll find many mentions of how fast Dell replaced defective units.

this is correct^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
however i think NEC uses a different panel..
in the past, NEC has been my first choice for display however with a price point of 5k, the display is out of reach for most people.

that being said, i have been reccomending monitors for the folks here at work for several years now, and one of the best monitors i have come across is the line of displays from HannSpree.

their 24inch model is beautiful and the display shows even luminance across the whole panel.

i have had issues with samsung computer monitors, but their TVs and commercial displays are top notch.

however, people really seem to like the Apple Cinema Display 30"

cheers!

I think that the 23" NEC EA231WMi DOES use the same LG panel. I know that with NEC's pro level monitors, NEC selectively chooses the best panels, but I don't know if that applies for the EA231WMi.

My dream monitor happens to be the NEC PA271W.
