On my commute I pass by the Lafayette Hillside Memorial (external link)and finally decided to stop and take some pictures. The memorial is updated each week with the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq. Currently the tally stands at 5714.

Personally the imagery of a black and white cemetery (this isn't really a cemetery) is always very powerful to me. Does it work here?

#1 is a nice picture but lacks reference.
I hesitate between #2 and #3. Both are powerful images and the black/white certainly works here.

My personal opinion.... It is a bloody shame that so many ordinary men and women have to die for the glory of some vain politicians that got stuck in a rut they cannot get out of without loosing face.

Powerful subject matter and I think you illustrate it very well... especially in 1 and 2

Thank you. I see this everyday and never made the time to stop and look at it. I actually wanted shot #1 to be the same type of composition, but include the sign with the number, but I didn't feel quite right walking up the hill through all the other crosses. Up close, you can see people have left a number of personal effects, pictures, notes, and other mementos. It's really directly across the street from a BART station (public transit) so I'm sure it gets a lot of people seeing it every day.

2 and 3 really drive home the amount of wasted life for a few oil barons.

Nice work man.
