With the camera beside you, read the manual. Play with the camera a while, and repeat - often. The better you get to know that camera, the more you will love it. I know I do. Enjoy buddy, and welcome to the 7D club!

Update: Just bought the 7D & 70-200 f2.8 IS II today.

Now I gotta learn how to use it. Can't wait till the new 2x III extender hits the shelves.

I'm so excited that I had to tell somebody! :D

I realize you just dropped a chunk of coin, but don't sell the TC MkII short...

The 1.4X should be utterly transparent with the 70-200 MkII and the 2X probably won't cost you much in the way of IQ either...

That's true from the photos I've seen taken with the TC MkII.
But the new MkIII should hit the shelves this month. I'll read the reviews and see if the extra cost of the new model is worth it.

Next on my buy list are both TCs and the 300 f2.8, either the current model or the new one. However, if the new TC 2x III combined with my 70-200 f2.8 IS II produces great IQ @ 400mm, then I might skip the 300 f2.8 and consider the 500 f4 instead.

Wonder if I should buy the battery grip for the 7D?

To mikekelly and HTRN, thanks. I believe I'll really enjoy this new gear.

If you go for the 500 f/4, I would do so...

More "mass" on the camera end helps dampen motion as well as balance the lens better. I shot my 300 + TC with an ungripped 5D at Oshkosh in 2009 and it was awful! Even the 70-200 didn't feel quite right.

Yes, that's why I'm not selling my Oly gear.
