I took this photo on one of my first trips out with my new camera. I decided to open it up and see what I could do with it. I adjusted the colors and all that, but it was just a dull boring image.. So I decided to check out some of those artistic options in Photoshop and see if I could turn it into something more attractive.

Here is a before and after shot.
Green leaf images has no adjustments at all, straight from the camera.
The second image is a photo edit I did in Photoshop with the artistic canvas

I actually thought about having the canvas look picture printed out, but not sure if it really looks good or not. So I would like some opinions on this photo and maybe what I should have done differently.
Canvas photo is better viewed from 2 feet away or farther

boy, that's like a Rembrandt forest shot! I like it. Not sure if the canvas treatment has an opacity slider for it, but did you try a little less and a little more? The canvas rendering seems a tad heavy to my eyes. Personal taste, of course.

But I love the coloring and lighting you decided on. Beautiful and calming. If that's what you were after, job well done!

I like it a lot! it looks beautiful, just like a painting,
The canvas texture is tad strong, i would slightly decrease its intensity,
Also, note that when you made everything warmer, the blue sky that was peeping from the trees is now very noticeable, since you gave it a painting look, i would alter the color of those blue dots on the edited image to be more in the tonal range of the warm trees, to give it a more "closed inside the forest" feel, but that's just my opinion...
a really beautiful result you got there!

I tried to adjust the sky behind the trees, but everything I was able to do wasn't doing much to it, not sure why.
Your right though, the canvas affect is a little too much, I tried toning it down but it didn't look right. I will adjust it again before I have it printed out to see how it looks printed. It might be better to use a aftermarket program instead of what is built into CS5?
This was just a quick adjustment to see what kind of potential it may have.

Wonderful use of PP!

And I'd say that if you can print big - and I mean at least 2' x 3' - then the strength of the effect will probably be about right.

Just my tuppence!

Simon

Yeah that would be cool. I checked some pricing on those and they cost about $200 and $100 for a blanket.. Little on the expensive side

Walmart does it for way cheaper. Quality might not be top nuch, but there is a demo in store and it's pretty great. Have a look if you are interested.

I have had a few of my photos framed, and it cost more than that for an 8X10:( It would make a very personal gift for Christmas!

I like this photo, really lovely editing.

The change in color palette is welcome; cold to warm tones, very realistic. The canvas texture adds the illusion of detail where it doesn't exist in the original. It also produces a mechanical matrix across the entire frame. The scene itself has a lovely surreal feel to it. The wide open path is inviting and I prefer warm tones in tree color to cold tones though that really matters to the entire frame and the meaning intended in the print.

I agree with the processing...you've managed to turn a drab, flat shot into something that's more inviting...the warmer tones do it justice Two things bother me, though...the canvas treatment looks too heavy (could be factor of the image size?), and the sky that's peeking through the foliage is now a funkier color. You could try adding a color balance layer and adjust the slider more towards the blue until you see the result that you like. Then, add a layer mask, fill with black, and use a small white brush to blot over the patches of sky. Quick and easy way to fix the sky color. But really nice job overall...just another tweak or two and you'll have a wall hanger for sure.
