I am going on a weekend "vacation" to Toronto, ON for my younger brother's hockey tournament and am wondering if there are any "hot spots" to get some good pictures? I am mainly looking for cityscapes, landscapes, urban, and possibly nature.

If you've been there, live there, know the area well, I would love to hear about some locations and how to get there. For example, the ferry ride to Olympic Island (it's on the list).

Thank you all!

i've been to toronto but didn't have the chance to take pics. I was recommended to check out 'Humber River', it cuts through just west of downtown. It's a long winding river so im sure there are a couple hot spots like parks or bridges.

Don't forget Toronto's well known landmark, the CN Tower. You can also go up to the top of the tower (the revolving restaurant) and get a bird's eye view of the city.

Falls are out of the question. I will be going into the city in between the games.

So far I have the following on my list:

  • Olympic Island
  • CN Tower
  • China Town (Spadina)
  • Fashion District (Queen ST W)
  • Stanley Cup

Young Street , new buildings, old buildings , restaurants , it goes for miles and don't forget to stop in at Henrys Camera on Church St , one block over runs parallel with Young but be repaired for 'sticker shock'

Definitely hit Young St !

When you're there and asking for directions, most people refer to "Centre Island" as the island to go to by ferry (as in "Where do I get the ferry to Centre Island"?). Olympic Island is there too, but not often referred to by name; when you're looking for the Stanley Cup, you'll be asking for the Hockey Hall of Fame, that's where it's kept, at the corner of Front Street and Yonge Street. It's a very interesting and interactive place, plus it's quite dark inside but with lots of spotlights on the exhibits and you'll need your flash for photos, if that's your prime mission. For some good "urban" shots, as long as you're going to be downtown anyway, wander through the Eaton Centre, from one end to the other. It's a large indoor downtown shopping mall with lots of light and photo ops.

The Distillery District in downtown is a great area. It's a group of historic buildings with cobblestone paths.
The St Lawrence Market area. There's the Flatiron building closeby.

There's tons of streetcars running all over downtown. And monuments and sculptures everywhere on streetcorners.
As some have mentioned, the Spadina area, any most anywhere along the Queen St/King Street/Front Street Areas.
Some nice buildings up University Ave.
Union Station where the trains come in.

There's also Unionville just north of downtown with some historic buildings.

You can find interesting things to shoot, just about anywhere downtown.

Cheers

.

I was there 2 years ago and did the falls....., never again, boring, too many people and just a tourist trap.

Toronto with a wide lens (10-20mm) will make you happy.

Updated list:

  • Olympic Island
  • CN Tower
  • Eaten Centre
  • Dunda's Square
  • China Town (Spadina)
  • Fashion District (Queen ST W)
  • Distillery District
  • Hockey Hall of Fame
Just a reminder; I will only be there for 2-3 days (Friday, Saturday, and possibly Sunday) and we are there for hockey. I am not positive whether or not I'll get to all, if even one, of these places but, if we have the time I want the list for reference. The actual tournament is being held in Mississauga so we really won't be near the city. The games are spread way apart on Friday and Saturday so if we have time we're going to make an effort to venture into the city. My family has been to Toronto many times but, I have never brought my camera.

Thanks for all the help, keep it coming.
