I`ve read somewhere on this forum that a guy tested the 055 and it was just too high. He was 5`9 and im 5`8. So i think the 190 fit me better!

190xprob has the column that can be put into horizontal position. Not sure if the 190prob does or not? could be the difference.

11lbs is quite a bit of glass. The OP doesn't have anything near that. Unless you start getting into the big superteles youll be fine with the 190s. However, the 055s support a 400 2.8 quite well.

My 055XPROB is sitting beside me with the legs collapsed and the center post fully down. The bottom plate of the camera is 28 inches from the ground. That's with a Giottos ball head - most of the Manfrotto ball heads are a bit shorter, I think.

It'll go lower if I spread the legs out.

My Monfrotto tripods and ballheads (and monopod) are all of an older generation but I will say that I bought them all with the future firmly in. As I upgraded camera bodies and especially lenses, I didn't want to have to keep upgrading my support, and I haven't regretted it.
