Yep. I was wondering too. So I checked your Flickr...seems you've got the 'blurry-car-behind-fence-partially-obscured-by-spectators-head' photo market cornered. Wise move copyrighting them too.

Daz

PS there are some other reasonably good photos on your flickr so don't take offence.

No worries gents. I have developed thick skin seeming this is the first time I shot panning shots. :D

I have to confess I was trying out Paul Henri Cahier's photographic style for capturing F1 photos as seen at http://pepinordona.com …i-cahier-f1-photographer/ (external link)

And during the free practice day I was trying out the style of the Sutton Brothers http://www.sutton-images.com/ (external link)

Now we can be conventional and use tried and true photo conventions but I did not travel 3 hours by plane and haul 7kg of gear up and down 10 flights of stairs to take conventional shots. Because everyone will be doing that. :)

And shooting through the fence was the only option unless you're an accredited FIA photographer as ticket holders were disallowed from using monopods.

With such adverse shooting conditions I think I did pretty well. :D

Threat of ejection and invalidation of your bought ticket for compromising health and safety.

I did not want to risk it as it was in Singapore. The land where chewing bubble gum is against the law.

Thank you for the links to the other photographers, very interesting.

I admire you for having a go in restricted circumstances, that frustration is one reason I have little interest in circuit stuff, and even less in F1.ridiculously overpriced and regulated, and a giant cash cow for Bernie Ecclestone.

Thanks for posting, though you did get my back up with your adobe comment, which seemed fairly pointless.

I see F1 photography as the pinnacle of motorsports photography within South East Asia and something I always wanted to do since the attending the 2000 Malaysian GP at Sepang.

Out of 2700 RAW images I am probably yielding 270 passable shots and out of 270 about 27 publication-class images of which 3 would be worthwhile editing further to remove the fence.

Almost everyone says I use Adobe products which I feel detracts from my ability to photograph things. So I have to state it outright that my work is untouched by any Adobe product.

My friends and I are eyeing either the Indian or Korean GP for next year's race.

I think given the restrictions of shooting through fencing they are very good.

I am never one to experiment and just stick to the 300 pushed up againsts the fence at the widest aperture i can get but will have to make a point of trying other methods next season.

I was familiar with Sutton images but in all honesty had never come across Paul Henri Cahier's work before so the link to that article was very intresting.

You may like to have a look Paolo at some of Daren Heaths (external link) work.

Thanks GG.

It was reported last year that both Darren Heath and Paul Henri Cahier gave F1 photography talks before the 2009 Singapore GP. Sadly I did not go last year. :(

This year I was very fortunate for the Sutton Brothers to give the free talk. Considering how busy all these photographers are any wisdom they impart is quite welcome.

I was told by some friends that the MotoGP in Malaysia had no restrictions whatsoever. So I may try that out one day.
