The center column is easier to move into a different position than on a Benro Flexpod (the only comparable Benro tripod). If you want to move the center column to a different position on a Benro you need to pull it out first, then get the center column holder in the correct position and put the center column back in. Obviously things get easier if you unmount the camera. With the Gitzo Explorer there is no need to. This is because the Explorer has an off-center design whereas the Benro has a centered design. Other than that the Benro Flexpod does the same thing.

If the photos didn't tell you, you'll just have to handle one.

Go on, try to put it into words. I can't see myself handling a Benbo anytime soon, so description is necessary.

Looking at the photo, the only advantage it has is a longer shaft, which you can buy extenders for anyway. All of those positions in the photo the gitzo can also do.
