Two photos from Saturday's Fleet Week show in San Francisco.

Visible shock waves as the solo does a sneak pass.

Amazing that down in SD (where it's supposedly drier...) they had gobs of vapor and the most amazing shock cones I think I've ever seen.

Yet here you are in SF getting what looks like Wright-Patterson AFB-quality molecular disturbances with no visible vapor at all!

Truly Odd...

I was hoping for some vapor cones. I'm going down again tomorrow and see if I can see a different variation.

Last year I got a vapor cone shot (weather was foggy so that probably helped) but was shooting with only a 300mm on a Pentax so it was a bit more difficult.

I was there today and San Diego(Miramar MCAS) and the general area down there seems to be on par with moisture in the air.

I don't think I've seen one quite like #1 before! All are excellent shots IMO.

I was out on the small peninsula area at the end of Yacht Rd. in front of Marina Green. My favorite area to shoot from since they get really close there :)

Thanks! I've seen a few photos online of the shock wave and was happy I was able to get a shot of it! :)

Love #1. I've never seen anything like it before (w/o that vapor that is). Fantastic!

I'll have to remember the sneak pass at my next major airshow.

Marina Green is closer to the Golden Gate Bridge. This area is really good is you have shorter focal lengths because they fly right over you several times throughout the show.

I don't normally go gaga over aviation photography but I really enjoyed the images you posted. May I also ask the time you arrived at you're spot? I'm planning for next October. :)
