Hello,

I just recently purchased a G11. I also got a book that goes into detail about the different options. I was interested when I saw a picture of a waterfall or something like it because the water was blurred but the rocks were clear. I looked at the picture info and it said that it was

ISO 80
2.5 Sec
f/4.5
6.1 mm

How come when I set the fstop to 4.5, with ISO 80 and Aperature at 2.5 it is just a white picture and I can see nothing, is there a different setting I am not thinking of that I need to change? thanks for the help

Basically at those settings, you'd need a neutral density filter to get anything but a white picture.
Try Aperture priority at the highest "F" number at ISO80, you may be able to get some of the effect.

This was at 1/4sec F/8 ISO100 not quite creamy. At 1/50sec the water blurred but looked kind of "choppy" coming down the falls. The highlights are blown out, with -1ev I could've gotten an even longer exposure at F/8 and gotten the detail of the leaves.

Congrats on the new camera! Just remember to have fun, sometimes it gets a little frustrating experimenting with different settings and new ideas, but you always learn something from it. This is a great forum to learn little tricks and hints.
