I'm using OSX, and was using a 300D before, but for some reason, it won't see the camera...

They're cheap, fast, and probably alot less aggravation than getting the camera to talk to the computer. Megapixels and high ISO are a digital photographers heroin. Once you have a little, you just want more and more. It doesn't stop until your bank account is run dry.

I carry one around on me in my bag all the time. Works great and was a cheap buy to go along with my more expensive one that I bought a long time ago. Go UCLA

Also if you use the Canon software install the version that came with the new camera, I don't bother with it at all though, it's pretty crappy. For the simple fact that you don't have to waste battery power just to transfer data, over it's pretty valuable. And it's not like usb 2.0 is expensive. I got my multicard usb 2.0 card reading for 9.99. Go UCLA

The camera does not "mount" to the desktop like a USB connected flash memory device. When you connect camera directly, you need to launch Canon EOS File Viewer Utility or Canon Zoombrowser to "see" the camera in directory tree. Or just use Apple's free provided Image Capture utility to make a folder and download. It''s all in Canon manual.
