I'm fairly comfortable dropping to 1/160 with my 400 f5.6 but it has no IS. If I'm using my 300 f4 I will drop down to 1/100 or even 1/80 if I can. Takes a lot of practice but if it was easy everyone would do it ;)

I am not making light of your photos. I am just making an observation about all the propeller heads that fall all over themselves to first to mention "no prop blur" or "it is about ready to fall out of the sky." I think the images are just fine.

Head Shots: Mis-focused Eyes
Fashion: Cut Off Limbs
Sports: Miss The Moment
Kids or Pets: Shooting Down on Them
Landscapes: Shooting at Noon

Aviation: Frozen Props or Clipped Noses/Tails/Wing Tips

These are "Cardinal Sins" and 99.9% of the time, they'll be pointed out.

Prop Blur is like Porn. Most can't agree on exactly what it is, but most know it when they see it (or see it lacking.) Two nice looks here but, in my world at least, they'd go in the "nice memory" file and never be seen in public.

Thanks for sharing them.

With the fine examples of aviation photography here on POTN, knowledgeable comments about taking such photos, and learning more about photography in general, I find that I take more enjoyment out of the photos I see in Flying and AOPA Pilot each month. Blurred props, gorgeous golden hour lighting across an airframe, background framing. It's a fascinating genre of photography.

Well, what would you prefer we call it?

Blur denotes motion and the lack of blur makes it look like the subject is having a four-alarm emergency and will be coming down in short order...

I'll grant you that not everyone has the same level of experience and many don't have a "prop blur" happy place to which they can go like some here do but it needs to be pointed out (as a learning thing) that nothing is more jarring to the viewer than frozen props.

Even one or two blade-widths worth is better than stone-cold stopped...

How about DIP; Discernible Individual Props.

Another aviation "expert" that just does not get it!

I rest my case.

FYI Jay. This is not so much directed at you. You almost always give some sort of helpful critique in addition to the above mentioned favorite line. I think we all know it is not the perfect image when the props are stopped. It is the "make fun of" attitude that is mostly presented. As reinforced numerous times in this thread alone. Especially this last poster! Well done RWatkins!

Nice catch, I haven't seen a B-29 flying for 30 years now. It was the B-29 'Hawg Wild' that is on display here in the UK at Duxford, It was an impressive sight on it's way into Mildenhall the day before it landed at Duxford for the last time.

Here's a good link including a short film about the delivery flight of Hawg Wild to Duxford.

But you yourself just don't get it. Nobody was laughing at his image. They are laughing at the funny names people are coming up with for the term "Frozen Props" you can't not laugh at "Propsicles" Not a single poster in here is bashing the OP.

Off my high horse now.
