I though it would be kinda cool to take pictures of lightning during a thunderstorm. Has anyone tried this before? Do you have any such pics? What setting would you use?

With digital, not such a big deal. You really have to be in a location with good storms. There are many great web sites dedicated to this effort. Time, practice, patience are very important.
