ive been on a hell of a lot of planes in my day and none have ever had power outlets.

last time i was on westjet they had free TV. like 20 channels. yeah the seats are a tad narrow.

maybe next time you might feel more accustomed to first class in air canada. ;)

ahhh I see

lately, with the growth of plane travels, and the stiff competion... airplane companies have really gone back to the basics with economy seats. narrow seats, no free whatsoever, no more food, and even goes as much as no more "Check in baggage"

the good thing is I could now go to anywhere in the Philippines for around $10 -$20 or even less with their promos

Well the airline he is talking about is a special one. They're Canadian and they have no first class or business class. everyone gets their own TV with their own remote and headseat plug in. All the seats are leather (or like leather) and they offer snacks and drinks on their flights.

i think the farthest they now fly is mexico. The farthest I've gone with them is Orlando. which was 4.5 hours. We were able to purchase lots of snacks and we had pillows and blankets.

The whole point of their airline is to allow everyone to have nice amenities without feeling less because they aren't in a "higher class". The seats are actually standard size. But if none of that is up to your expectations, then you're flying the wrong airline.

and for the record, i spent 13 hours on a continental plane before and the entire time i wished i was on westjet ;)

Hah we used to fly business class but we dialed it back :)

American, United and Air Canada all have power sockets in the head rest for laptop plugs etc

ohhh a budget airline that somehow has most of the amenities of a normal airline? that's good :D

here, as you probably already know, cost is everything... I would suspect if airliners here offer "Standing room" only for like $5 or so, a lot of people would grab it. after all from the capital to the southern most part of the Philippines only takes around 1.5hrs

hehe you can afford it though, not like most people here :D

one reason why planes were not so popular before because normal prices were around $60-$80... while there are inter-island ferries that only costs $10=$15 (although the travel time is like 12hr-30hrs or so depending on the destination).

anyway, I'll be going on an island today (Camotes Island)... I'll be back tomorrow afternoon and I'll blind you guys with another set of photos ahaha

^Hi Neeko. Wassup?

Not much. Cleaning my place. The D200 with grip cam in. It's kind of nice. Missing a few things, so I ordered them from asia. A 10pin cap, eye rubber piece, mb-d200 latch. but all in all, pretty good for a backup.

I'm also picking up a D50 for a walk around camera. Originally the D200 was going to be the walk around cam but now I'm just going to have it hang around expect for special outdoors occasions. the D50 was about $175 for the body. Looking to get either a 24-85 2.8 or a 35-70 2.8D for a walk around lens.

I was able to use a D70 a while back, and it feels very very sluggish Neeko, I mean the interface lags...unlike the Canon rebels which are very responsive and intuitive, I find models older than the D90 not so user friendly :D

no no, I completely agree. The models older than the D90 are a little slow in the user interface. But a deal is hard to pass up. I actually missed someone here selling a D40 for $125 but I kind of want the option to use any lens on the D50.

Slow UI or not; the D70 (and D70s) is (are) special little camera bodie(s) with that electronic focal-plane shutter -- giving them an X-sync of 1/500th and as fast as 1/8,000th with wireless triggers.

The same shutter the Canon 1D ("classic") has, but the 1D can hit 1/16,000th of a second.

Other than that though, the D70 yields little interest to me.

the guy who asked for architectural shots only said thank you :(

anyhow, Julian I noticed the thread regarding asking about filter brands, it got me thinking... I think I already read your opinion regarding this. but can't seem to remember the reason why get Lee filter holder over the Cokin again?

one of the things that excites me about the 16-35mm is I'll be able to use filters again, specially GND, the Big stopper and IR. I already have the ND1.2 too :D

I have never never never really thought about getting a polarizer. I have never used it and I dunno really if I would be able to appreciate it. thoughts?

Polarizers will help reduce glare and help increase contrast in your landscapes. Let's say you want to shoot a waterfall and want to use a rock with moss as your foreground. You take the shot and when you view it on your monitor, it looks too wet. Now, you go back to the same waterfall and you use a CPL. You see that on your monitor that the CPL reduced the glare and increased contrast in your image. This is how a CPL works. For the most part this will help in your landscapes. Especially, being near the beaches all the time. One thing you can't replicate in post is what a CPL can do.

Here's a sample of not using a CPL in this shot. It turned out great but, I should've use a CPL here to reduce the glare in the foreground

Here's one where I used the CPL. You can clearly see the glare/reflection is reduced in the foreground. CPLs are a main stay for a landscape photog. I'm surprised you don't have one. :)

I'm a fan of the following brands when it comes to optical filters:
- Schneider Optics (GNDs -- soft-edge & hard-edge)
- B+W (UV, IR, UV-IR, B&W colored filters)
- Singh-Ray (CPLs and specialty ND filter)
