Hi Folks, been awol from here for a few months but just too busy for snapping - aye, right Jimbo, pick everyone's brains and bugger off! :) - but would appreciate any feedback on these please. I just borrowed some new lighting and have tried manual instead of ETTL - Gonzo, please feel free to say, "I told you so!" - and so would primarily like comments on the lighting, but all other cc greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

These are all solid shots, but the first model needs to be on a different background, it looks like it's supposed be fashion, but it's on a portrait studio background.

What kind of look are you going for?

These look like portrait studio shots, and if that's what you're going for, then they're right on the money. Personally I like the lighting a little more dramatic and less flat, maybe with some kind of rim light coming from behind the model.

The white balance on 4 and 6 needs some work though. 5 is a very nice shot, but be careful you don't crop too tight, it might be nice to see her whole elbow.

Agree about the background but I thought she wanted head & shoulders shots before she came up, but we plan to do it again with different (probably white) background. Regarding the 'look', was more interested in trying out the lights, so asked her (friend) if she fancied coming up, so nothing formal planned.

I take your point about the rim lighting... I actually tried it but minced it up somewhat ... next time! :)

Not sure about the white balance... they were all set the same, and not a lot of pp done. Maybe something in the levels adjustment?

Many thanks for your comments, much appreciated.

Nice to see you back, Jim. Awesome work, the ones of the child being of exceptional quality. And great to see a proper background.

Ha! Cheers mate. It was good, on returning to the board, to see your comment about the old 'grunge' photos... :) Nice one!! I just got that new background - the old blue job is now dead! - and was eager to try it, but admittedly it doesn't work with the shots of the young lady, as mltn pointed out.

Nice to be back... I've missed this place :)

I ALWAYS, ALWAYS start with the subject's body positioned at a 45° angle to the camera. Try that and then get back to me.

Oh... right... Cheers Benji. Sounds scarily like 'trig' to me! :)
