Perhaps Canon moved the design team from the BG-E2 grip over to design the 350D ;)
This is really alarming news.

To trouble shoot your lines issue:

1. Try the same lens on different camera.
2. Try the same body with different lenses.
3. Try different software.
4. Try different computer.

And see the result, then you draw your own conclusion for whether you should send which part bad to Canon for replacement or repair.

This is a disturbing issue... my three week old 350D hasn't exhibited any sign of this - yet, but it's got me wondering.

To the folks who've seen this: can you tell me if it showed up only on JPEG images or also when shooting RAW. Could be a compression artifact.

Inquiring minds want to know...

I agree... disturbing. Especially considering the number of people who have reported the same issue.

Steve, never thought of the environment being the cause. I wouldn't have thought thats the cause but I do shoot in the same areas all the time and I guess it may be. I really don't know.

HKFEVER, I've done all of what you suggested and still got the problem to be evident on all three bodies.

Pashooter, if you haven't found this issue on your camera then I wouldn't worry. I would say that most 350D'/XT's are fine as there seems to be a great deal of people with them. For every 1 bad complaint about something they say theres normally 2,000 happy people. You don't hear from the satisfied people, only the upset people.

As to the JPEG Vs RAW question. I don't shot alot of RAW, I mostly use the large/fine JPEG. That said it has only been in my JPEG captures thus far, I've not seen it in any RAWs.

It's quite hard to notice on a printed 6x4, if you crop alot and/or sharpen heavily it becomes very evident. I think I'm only finding it on more captures now because I know what to look for and I'm looking for it. I hadn't noticed it untill someone else brought it to my attention. In most affected captures I can't see it untill I crop/sharpen heavily to force it to become seen, which I wouldn't normally do.

Cheers Wayne :D

if it's horisontal banding it can only be either a sensor failure

Maybe Canon tried to simplify some process and ended up compromising quality?
