Hello, my name is Paul, and I'm a lurker who has come in search of ego-stroking feedback!

These were all taken on my recent holiday to the Maldives. Unfortunately the rainy season lived up to its name, so any idea of blue-sky-white-sand landscapes were largely forgotten. The local wildlife was more obliging.

The fruit bats were a challenge. There tended not to be too much warning that there was about to be a swift appearance by a bat, and the autofocus on my 20D struggled to be quick enough before it disappeared again. None of my photos would please a pixel-peeper, but the web doesn't seem to be awash with flying fruit bat pictures so I'm happy with what I managed to obtain (or it's an excuse to buy that 7D and go back again....)

More photos can be found on my site.

Thanks for loaning me your eyeballs.
Paul

good use of dof on the lizard. I like the bats in flight. Very nice series!

The light through the bat's wing membrane is incredible. You can see its blood vessels!
