This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new editing tricks.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture, re-sized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being re-sized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #321".

This game will end at 6 PM EST on Sunday, October 17th. Have fun and enjoy.

took the original image and mirrored it and then saved as a new image. The reason for this step is because I wanted to clone in some of the foliage from the trees right side to it's left side be I wanted to keep things in the proper alignment.

Now I'm able to use my new mirrored image as the base for my cloning. I cloned in the foliage from the right side and put it on the tree bottom left side.

Then punched up the colors a bit and sharpened a little and used a filter to lighten the center and darken the edges a little.

Been away for some time - tore my calf muscle refeering a rugby match. I am just too old for that sort of thing. 9 year old boys run too fast these days !!

In the mean time, been trying out Lightroom 2. So here is my effort.

Dropped the exposure, boosted the clarity, de-saturated the greens and tree trunk and boosted the reds. Sharpened.

I went a little different way....

Duplicated background layer
curves adjustment
new layer for face
imported face pic
erased around face
"embossed" face for texture
made face layer mode "value" with opacity of 55
duplicated face layer
made duplicate face layer mode "overlay"
made layer for frame
merged all layers
added black for mouth to show depth

Sorry for the delay, had a great day yesterday @ a pumpkin farm w/ the kiddo's.

Well, this was a pretty bad photo to start with, which I think is what this is about, to see how we can best recover 'throw aways' rather than trying to make an already good photo better.

Palladium - I like what you did with the foliage & colors, even tho in the lower left of the photo in the green area I can see a line where the cloning took place, I like the over all idea to fill in the area, well done.

The Laird - I like how you brought out the red, however I dont like the desaturated greens, all in all tho well done.

jb2u - I actually love the colors & how you recovered the photo in itself, the face I could do w/ out, however I am a fan of a creative edit ;) Well Done.

surgeonhawkeye - very creative edit, well done.

This one goes to Palladium, Take it away...
