Hi,
Can anyone give me a step by step account of how to achieve a letterbox type of border in my post processing. Letterbox as in a border along the top and bottom of my images only, with nothing up either side. I would like to fill the border with date taken info as well as my name. The software I have is Lightroom 3 and Elements 7.
I have looked into Mogrify, but, at this moment in time its far too complicated for me and I didnt understand what I was doing as I am not the best at computer software. So if Mogrify is the only solution for Lightroom, can it be achieved in PSE 7. If not, if I updated to Elements 8 can it be done with that ?
Many Thanks

Ian

Actually Mogrify is an easy way to do it. Just add the Border panel to the export dialog. Do NOT check the "identical borders" box Then just add a number to the top and one to the bottom. And export. Change the number till it fits what you are looking for. Save it as a preset and have it for next time. You can even pick any color you want.

Hi Mark,
Im quite sure that Mogrify is the easy way to do it its just that I cant manage to install it to test that out. I have downloaded it in the past and didnt have a clue what to do once I had. It just sat somewhere in my files on my computer.
I have just spent 2 hours trying again. My computer tells me that its already on my system. If I open LR3 then it isnt anywhere there, but when I go into 'search all files' it comes up. When I click on it it doesnt open a program it gives me about 40 options none of which make any sense to me. I have also downloaded 'image magic display' which to be true, I dont know what its for, but I read it somewhere that it could help.
I have read many time that people have difficulties with the complexities of actually opening Mogrify, so I know its not just me finding it difficult.
Any help from anyone would be greatly received :-)

In the Print module use the Print to File function. Set up a template where the print is borderless on two sides and leaves the required amount of paper on the other two sides. Then change the page background color to grey or black. Make an Identity Plate with your name and drag it to the border and enable "Photo Info" with the date. Save it as a jpg, setting quality, sharpening and color space.

Wow! What a clever and inventive idea. Truly "thinking outside the box." And it should be easy to make your own borders in addition to the 9 provided.
