Help wanted:

I just bought a 1d classic and when I try and take a photo with the camera, it says "Err" on the top lcd screen.

I have a new battery, aftermarket, a Sandisk ultra III card that came with the camera.

I have tried multiple lenses on the body:
Sigma 100-300
Sigma 70-200
Canon 70-200
Canon 50

When I press the shutter button, I get "Err" on the top lcd screen. None of the lenses AF and the shutter does not seem to function.

I have contacted the seller and I am waiting to hear back.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem may be.

Thanks

Scott

I just tried a 512mb card that is a generic card. Formatted it and the same problem happened.

The card that came with the camera is a Sandisk Extreme III 2gb card. Apparently this was working prior to me getting the camera. None of the cards I have worked.

Um, I had the same problem with a 1D and it was an electrical issue. I had bought mine from Adorama at the beginning of the year. They instructed me to call Canon. Did that and they went through a list of things with me. Electrical seemed to be the best consensus.

I sent it back to Adorama. It worked fine when I got it. Had it two months and that happened.

I got a replacement. The shutter on that one died in LESS than 24 hours after receiving it. I sent that one back as well as got my money back.

you just never know when they will go kaput.

I hope you can resolve it satisfactorily.

try it without a lens - a sure way to see if it's the camera or the lens...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Should also be able to set it to fire off shots without the CF card in--if you still get errors then, return it. You'd be looking at a minimum $200 canon repair charge.

Yup. At least $200. Have you tried to rub an eraser on the contacts of the camera and lenses?

Will try the eraser on the contacts.

It will not take a photo without the lens attached either.

I just tried cleaning the contacts and that did not resolve the issue either.

When looking through the viewfinder, I can see the AF point activate, but then the info in green and the AF point blink and vanishes.

I gave the seller my work number, hopefully we can work something out. He offered a 3 day return policy so I may ship it back this afternoon.

Uh, not really. If you bought on ebay, the standard is 45-days. Sellers really have no say in it. If you open a paypal dispute, paypal arbitration will allow the buyer to send it back for just about any reason.

Even if you don't use ebay and you miss the 45-day paypal deadline, you can STILL file a credit card chargeback within 90-days. That guarantees you a return.

Now... if you paid cash or paid via gift funds... the seller is under no obligation to do anything for you whatsoever.

I spoke with him yesterday via phone. He is going to refund the money. But.....he took the money out of his PP account. I am calling him today to find out exactly when the money is going back in my PP account.

I am annoyed that he took the money out before making sure I was satisfied with the camera. I normally wait a week or two after selling something before taking the money out of my account or using it for something else.

Just as a courtesy and precaution in the event there is an issue.

so even if the seller says "No returns" on the sale page you still have 45 days?
